Sony-backed blockchain Soneium announced plans for a native SONEIUM token on October 26 as it expands into entertainment financing. The Ethereum layer-2 network also outlined products for tokenizing music royalties, characters, and other creative rights but gave no token launch date.
Its official announcement described an ecosystem with more than 250 applications spanning music, games, anime, film, and fan projects. The SONEIUM token is intended to connect creators, rights holders, developers, fans, and investors within that network.
The project has not revealed the supply of the token, its distribution model, and the time of its creation. The project also mentioned that there has never been any SONEIUM token released.
What Will the SONEIUM Token Do?
Soneium outlines the economic layer that the planned asset is expected to act as for its larger entertainment ecosystem. Nevertheless, the October 26 announcement failed to provide any specific information on how the asset would work as a transaction medium.

The blockchain network has also decided to update its base gas fee for the purposes of sustaining operations and activities. It also failed to outline any gas payment mechanism with regard to the SONEIUM token.
The second project, known as Tokenized IP, seeks to bridge entertainment rights with financing. The holders of rights can create IP tokens, which are linked with a specific creator, studio or piece of work.
Which Entertainment Projects Come First?
The first IP token revealed so far is associated with Moriusa, which belongs to Super State Holdings from Tokyo. The initiative intends to provide backing for merchandise, animated shorts, and licensing deals associated with the character.
The other planned product is called IP Vault, which will be used for investments based on entertainment assets, such as music libraries. Furthermore, there is a tokenized IP bond associated with financing based on entertainment-related businesses.
Through its collaboration with South Korea-based DayOneDream, K-pop intellectual property becomes involved in these products. The WAVIST platform of DayOneDream aims to tokenize concert business royalties associated with proven artists.
According to the September collaboration, BTOB and LEE CHAE YEON are among the artists involved. Prior to that, WAVIST issued, redeemed, and burned an IP bond back in May. This does not mean anything about the launch date or requirements for products offered via Soneium.

These products are separate from the SONEIUM token. No information has been provided yet by the network that the purchases of any entertainment product will need the suggested native token.
How Will the Platform Handle Licensing?
Soneium Portal will be used as a platform where you can discover and join into tokenized entertainment projects. At the first stage, it will be focused on primary sales only, and fan interaction and royalties will come later.
On-chain IP architecture has three components. IP Registry is used for storing information about creative assets and ownership. An IP Graph will be used to map the connections between originals, collaborations, and derivations. It is supposed to reflect the relations between licensed works and creations.
The IP Execution Layer will be used for distributing the fees from the licensing and earnings through the use of smart contracts. Fees will be distributed based on the rules created by rights owners, not instead of it.
ERC-8432 is one more protocol that is going to be used by Soneium. This protocol includes machine-readable licensing information and is used for checking permissions to use creative works along with copyright protocols.
When Will the SONEIUM Token Launch?
Blockchain was built by Sony Group and Startale Group and went into the mainnet release in January 2025. Access to digital assets and applications is provided through the Startale App.
The new portal, Soneium, has established itself as the gateway for tokenized IP, whereas the current app caters to overall network activities. In none of the two announcements, there was any mention of the dates for distributing the SONEIUM tokens.
According to Yuji Kumagai, the head of Soneium Protocol, the plan is to assist creators in funding their creations and reaching out to their fans. Details regarding the SONEIUM token and TGE will be revealed soon.
