A bank can custody Ripple’s stablecoin without creating meaningful demand for XRP. That is the central argument from a crypto analyst examining Standard Chartered’s RLUSD arrangement in a video that questions why Ripple’s expanding business has barely registered in its token’s price.
Dana Love, PhD puts XRP at $1.39, compared with $1.37 when the bank announced custody. The distinction matters: adopting a product issued on the XRP Ledger is not the same as buying or holding XRP.
The collateral stays at the bank
According to the announcement quoted in the video, Standard Chartered would “mirror the value of eligible collateral” to LMAX Group without transferring the underlying RLUSD to the trading venue.

Dana Love, PhD describes custody as operational, but says the collateral arrangement remains subject to documentation, testing, regulatory clearance and internal approval. No launch date is given.
That limits the announcement’s immediate implications for XRP. Mirroring a balance does not itself require an on-chain transfer, while transactions that do occur on the ledger carry small XRP-denominated fees that are burned.
Other developments show the same separation. The video cites Cross River Bank’s RLUSD integration and Ripple Prime’s expanded trading offering, where clients can post RLUSD as collateral. Neither announcement, as presented, establishes substantial new XRP demand.
Dana Love wants names, volumes and XRP commitments
The video also challenges Standard Chartered’s reported $2.80 year-end 2026 XRP target, reduced from $8. From the quoted $1.39 price, reaching that level would require roughly a 101% gain.
The analyst contrasts the bank’s earlier projection of $4 billion to $8 billion in first-year XRP ETF inflows with $1.8 billion reported through October 16. That is 45% of the forecast’s lower bound, although the video does not establish that ETF flows alone determine the bank’s valuation.
For Ripple’s upcoming Swell conference, the analyst identifies four developments worth watching: a permanent escrow lock or burn; XRP accepted within Ripple Prime; a named bank disclosing live XRP bridge volumes; or XRP collateral use through the ledger’s lending infrastructure.
Dana Love, PhD assigns a 40% probability to XRP reaching $2.80 by the end of 2026, contingent on stronger flows and concrete announcements. Those are personal projections, not independently validated probabilities.
The useful distinction is between Ripple winning customers and those customers needing XRP coins. Partnerships may expand the business; disclosed holdings, collateral commitments and settlement volumes would offer clearer evidence that the token benefits too.
