Institutions that embrace blockchain are defining the future of finance, and Avalanche is built to lead the way. That was the message from Ava Labs President Charley Cooper, who said the shift from online to on-chain replaces the entire trade lifecycle, freeing assets trapped in legacy systems and delivering better service for clients and broader economic opportunity.
NYSE Tests Avalanche Rails
Cooper’s remarks, shared by AVAX, argue financial institutions adopting blockchain will set market pace. Key entities are Ava Labs, developer of Avalanche, and traditional finance participants testing its technology. The comments follow nearly 12 months of evaluation by the New York Stock Exchange and parent Intercontinental Exchange.

Cooper disclosed at the AVAX Summit that NYSE tested Avalanche, probing performance and business alignment. ICE Vice President Michael Blaugrund said AVAX meets many requirements, but no formal selection has been made. NYSE is building a 24/7 platform for trading and on-chain settlement of tokenized US equities and ETFs, pairing its Pillar matching engine with blockchain post-trade rails.

Those with the resource to do so include Rowe Price WisdomTree Wellington, DTCC Digital Assets Apollo BlackRock, Franklin Templeton and KKR. Several have adopted Evergreen Subnets such as Spruce, the permissioned testnet launched in April 2023.

Why Evergreen Architecture is so Important
Avalanche’s institutional focus is on Evergreen Subnets, which gives the permissioned L1 template in which validators are whitelisted, users are identified, and gas tokens can be altered. Evergreen gives the ability for KYB and AML at the protocol level, privacy controls and custom fees, while remaining interoperable via Avalanche Warp Messaging. This is the institutional challenge.
Public chains enable composability but lack compliance. Private databases provide control but lose network effects. Evergreen is the in-between where a bank operates a permissioned chain for settlement and then directly plugs into the public AVAX network when ready.
Avalanche9000 cut L1 launch costs from 2,000 AVAX to 1.33 AVAX per validator per month. The network is used for more than $3.4B of tokenized assets (Ava Labs), with SEC filings reporting over $2 billion of tokenized securities. In Q2 of 2026, 235.6 million transactions moved over $84.4 billion in stablecoin transfer volume.

Core DeFi TVL as DeFiLlama is around $1.5-2 billion. JPMorgan Onyx ran tokenized portfolio rebalancing tests with WisdomTree and Apollo. Citi tested tokenized deposits and private fund tokenization on Spruce. Progmat in Japan moved $3 billion in security tokens to an Avalanche Subnet.

mplications and What Comes Next
For investors, institutional L1 growth could drive fee burn and staking demand for AVAX, capped at 720 million with over 5 million burned. For institutions, benefits include sub-second finality, atomic trading, and 24/7 collateral movement. For developers, Evergreen brings sovereign execution without competing for Ethereum blockspace.

For regulators, the model raises questions about compliance placement. Avalanche embeds KYC in validator sets, while Solana relies on Token-2022 Hooks requiring per-token deployment. What happens next is conversion from pilots to production. NYSE has not named a final chain and works with tZERO as design partner, pending SEC exemptions. Cooper noted firms like KKR, BlackRock, and Apollo moved on-chain without waiting for the CLARITY Act.

Upcoming milestones include New York Life’s tokenized high-yield fund via Centrifuge, Aave’s institutional RWA lending market, and Granite upgrade improvements today. If live capital follows pilots, Avalanche could shift from experimental to operational infrastructure for Wall Street.
