WEEX hosts Crypto Pizza Day in Dubai with 50+ MENA crypto community guests on May 21.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 22, 2026 — WEEX, a global crypto exchange, hosted Crypto Pizza Day at a Dubai studio on May 21, where more than 50 guests from the wider MENA crypto community came together to mark the first real-world Bitcoin transaction.
Held from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. GST, the invitation-only event welcomed key opinion leaders, content creators, Web3 founders, community members, and strategic partners for an evening of friendly competition, poker, conversation, and, of course, pizza.
Bitcoin Pizza Day commemorates May 22, 2010, when programmer Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas, which most of the industry now considers the first time anyone spent Bitcoin on something tangible. Today, that order would cost roughly $770 million, a price tag that has aged into one of the most expensive meals on record.
The Dubai event carried on the tradition with a program that mixed crypto culture, conversation, and a sit-down treat of pizza and soft drinks. The night opened with a guest reception and check-in.
After the guest reception and check-in, the program opened at 7:30 p.m. with a welcome speech by a WEEX representative, then moved into a simulated trading competition in which eight participants tested their strategies over two rounds. The top two from each round qualified for the final, conducted on demo accounts with no real money involved.
A second corner of the studio held friendly poker tables, where chips and bragging rights were the only stakes.
Once the action wound down, attendees gathered for pizza, soft drinks, and open conversation before an awards ceremony closed out the evening, with prizes handed to the competition’s top performers.
“For most of us who work in crypto, Bitcoin Pizza Day is one of the dates we never forget. Laszlo’s order was a proof of concept that a peer-to-peer currency could truly move value for a real product,” said a WEEX spokesperson.
Dubai continues to attract crypto founders, builders, and investors, and community gatherings like Crypto Pizza Day reflect how central the city has become to the global crypto conversation.
