CNBC Crypto trader and market personality Ran Neuner has declared the Layer 1 war over and presented Solana and Ethereum as the winners. Notably, the “L1 war” is the long-running competition between base-layer blockchains to become the dominant platform for crypto apps, users, and money.
According to Neuner, the fight among base-layer blockchains (L1s) for dominance is finished, and Solana has won in terms of speed, users, and crypto activity. On the other hand, Ethereum stands as a notable winner, which Neuner believes has won the battle in terms of real-world assets, institutions, and onboarding.
In a recent interview with Cryptocurrency personality and Podcast host Scott Melker, Neuner revealed that Layer 1s offer no upside except Ethereum and Solana. He further asserts that the next phase of blockchain evolution has begun.
“Solana has won it, and Ethereum with Base and Robinhood has won it. I wouldn’t really invest in any other Layer 1s, because I don’t think there’s any upside in Layer 1s…That means that we’ve moved to the next part of the Blockchains. L1s were the last battle; now we’re talking about the killer applications.” Neuner stated.
Post-Layer 1 Battle: Neuner sees killer applications taking over
Neuner refers to killer applications, often categorized as breakthrough products with use cases so useful and compelling that they drive mass adoption of blockchain technology, as businesses that must generate massive user bases, attain notable network effects, generate real sustainable revenue, and effectively pass down said revenue to token holders.
He goes on to describe brand tokens as a V2 of equity, noting that while equity was valuable for companies, tokens are emerging as the next generation of value accrual tools for publicly owned networks.
Essentially, Ran Neuner believes tokens improve on the old idea of company stocks. Stocks let investors share in a business’s success, but tokens do something similar for open crypto networks and apps. They let everyday holders capture value more directly as the network grows and earns money.
