The line between traditional finance and crypto companies keeps disappearing. This has been further demonstrated today. An ETF owned and managed by American investment firm Vanguard Group has bought $7.5 million worth of shares in Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet. According to the statement announced today, Vanguard’s small-cap ETF (VSS) confirmed for the first time that it has purchased 4.5 million shares of Metaplanet, valued at $7.5 million.

Today, Vanguard’s VSS small-cap ETF announced its first acquisition of shares in Metaplanet MTPLF, a firm recognized as a Bitcoin treasury company. According to the announcement, Metaplanet MTPLF is listed on BitcoinTreasuries.NET as a firm that holds Bitcoin in its treasury.
The Vanguard fund is an investment vehicle that invests in small-cap companies outside the US. The new investment gives its ETF Bitcoin exposure through shares of Japan-based Metaplanet, which trades publicly.
Metaplanet Inc. is Japan’s first publicly listed Bitcoin treasury company. The firm uses Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset and leverages innovative debt and equity financing strategies to optimize shareholder value.
Vanguard is a recognized investment management platform with $13 trillion in assets under management. The asset manager has gained indirect exposure to Bitcoin through its new investment in Metaplanet’s BTC treasurer strategy, based on the report above.
The $7.5 million investment places Metaplanet shares in Vanguard’s VSS ETF holdings, giving it indirect exposure to the firm associated with Bitcoin accumulation.
Wall Street sees Bitcoin’s biggest opportunity
Vanguard’s investment in Metaplanet’s stock reflects its conviction in the opportunities built around Bitcoin-focused operations. The approach shows how public companies are differently managing their Bitcoin exposure in the current market.

Today, Wall Street giant Vanguard officially made a bold statement in the crypto landscape by disclosing a massive $7.5 million Bitcoin position in Metaplanet’s stock. This investment clearly shows that top financial institutions are betting big on the future of digital assets.
