$51 Million of Bitcoin Moves After 14 Years of Dormancy

Ancient Bitcoin holders are returning to the market after the recent price breakout across the crypto ecosystem sparked ultra-bullish momentum.

While Bitcoin has remained on the upside, recent onchain data from Whale Alert shows that a large amount of Bitcoin that has been dormant for nearly a decade and a half has moved again.

Satoshi-era Bitcoin activates

As sentiment remains increasingly bullish, the data shows that a dormant address holding up to 600 BTC, worth about $51.15 million at Bitcoin’s current price, has resurfaced.

Notably, the data shows that the large amount of Bitcoin was activated after sitting untouched for 14.2 years, stirring speculation about the return of old money into the Bitcoin market.

While the move has stirred discussions among market participants, the age of the activated Bitcoin tokens places them among Bitcoin’s early-era holdings, dubbed Satoshi-era Bitcoin. 

It is not a surprise that the transaction has caught the attention of the market at such a time, as Bitcoin wallets from the early era are closely watched because their owners acquired BTC when the asset was still in its early stages and trading at very low prices, positioning them for significant gains.

What does this mean for Bitcoin?

While the recent price breakout has sparked fresh bullish momentum across the crypto market, the sudden activation of such a long-dormant Bitcoin stash has drawn attention from the crypto community.

While most such cases have frequently been traced to profit-taking activities, it is important to note that the sudden activation does not necessarily mean that the holder is preparing to sell. 

Rather, the long-existing Bitcoin stash could simply be moving to another wallet, since there is currently no indication that the funds have been sent to an exchange.
