Block has launched Buzz, an open-source workspace for employees and artificial intelligence agents. The Block Buzz platform brings team communication, code management, and automated workflows into one system while supporting work between people and agents.
Jack Dorsey announced the release on X. According to him, Buzz is a team chat for groups of people and agents of all kinds. The developer claims that the program is model agnostic, decentralized, and self-sovereign.

How Buzz Connects Humans and AI Agents
Moreover, he connects it with the reduction of Block’s dependence on Slack and GitHub. It features channels, threads, direct messages, voice, media sharing, canvases, and searching. It also includes code repositories and automated workflows.
The interface is structured like modern communication systems in the workplace. However, agents are treated as separate participants rather than bots.
All individuals and agents have their own unique cryptographic identity. The identity has permissions and a history of activity.
Agents are able to share messages, review code, execute certain processes, and participate in projects. Such restrictions determine what each participant is allowed to do on the Block Buzz platform.
Buzz is built on Nostr, which is a decentralized communication protocol. Events are recorded using Nostr with cryptographic signatures.
Messages, reactions, code modifications, approval, and workflows go into a shared audit log. This enables teams to check on any activity in projects through searches.
What the Block Buzz Platform Offers Companies
The Block Buzz platform supports agents powered by various frameworks and models. Options include Claude Code, Codex, and Block’s Goose.
Companies have the freedom to connect their databases, codebase, file systems, and other proprietary solutions. Administrators can then restrict the resources available to every agent.
Block offers a hosted version of Buzz. Companies are able to install it on their own infrastructure. Through self-hosting, they get control of their data, relay, and agents. The Block Buzz platform is open-sourced under the Apache 2.0 license.
The current release includes desktop applications, channels, threads, direct messages, canvases, media sharing, and search.
