An Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license has been awarded to Bybit Payments GmbH by the Financial Market Authority (FMA) of Austria, according to an announcement made by Bybit.eu today.
Through the Bybit.eu platform, Bybit Payments GmbH will provide regulated electronic money and payment services to its customers. Bybit EU GmbH, an Austrian crypto-asset service provider that has been authorized under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) since May 2025, handles the provision of crypto-asset services on the same platform in a distinct manner.
The two Austrian entities each have their own unique regulatory licenses and obligations in order to ensure that they are in compliance with the regulatory standards. While Bybit EU GmbH is in possession of the MiCAR authorization for transactions involving crypto-assets, Bybit Payments GmbH is in possession of the EMI license for transactions involving electronic money and payment services. By using the Bybit.eu platform, their services will be consolidated in order to provide clients throughout Europe with a more unified and unified experience.

With the EMI license, Bybit Payments GmbH is able to establish the regulatory foundation for future payment capabilities. These capabilities may include person-to-person payments, e-money services, Strong Customer Authentication, open-banking functionality, merchant payment solutions, and future card initiatives. These services will be introduced in accordance with the requirements that are applicable.
With the help of this license, Bybit Payments GmbH is allowed to develop regulated payment capabilities that are complementary to the crypto-asset services that Bybit EU GmbH provides. Keeping a firm difference between the two entities that are subject to regulation is of the utmost importance.

Bybit Payments GmbH will also be able to develop strategic relationships with financial institutions, payment providers, and enterprise partners with the assistance of the EMI license. This will take place while simultaneously reducing the company’s reliance on third-party payment infrastructure over time.
The near future will see the dissemination of further information, which will include specific dates for the debut of the product as well as specifics on the rollout throughout Europe.
