Joseph Chalom, CEO of SharpLink and former BlackRock executive, expressed his opposition to Ethereum improvement proposal EIP-8363. This initiative, dubbed “Tapered Issuance Burn,” proposes progressively burning validator rewards to limit the amount of ETH in staking, eliminating issuance yield altogether if the threshold of 50% of tokens deposited is reached.

The executive warned that reducing these rewards would increase the cost of capital, harm the DeFi sector, and destroy ETH’s greatest competitive advantage over Bitcoin: its ability to generate native yield. By limiting staking profitability, Ethereum would lose key appeals for institutional capital and real yield across decentralized protocols.

Currently, the community is debating whether this measure will be implemented in future network upgrades. Although it aims to disincentivize excessive staking concentration, industry leaders like Stani Kulechov (Aave) back SharpLink’s stance, pointing out that it would hurt mass adoption.
