Coinbase is expanding its push into agentic finance, arguing that software agents will need ways to hold, receive and move money as they take on more tasks for people and businesses.
The exchange’s “Agentic Finance” vision gives AI agents access to wallets and payment networks so they can complete transactions with less human intervention. Coinbase says stablecoins can provide an always-on payment system for agents to pay for services, settle transactions and manage funds.
Coinbase Expands Agentic Finance Beyond Trading
Coinbase is dividing its Agentic Finance strategy into trading and commerce. Its Coinbase for Agents product connects AI tools to Coinbase accounts through the Model Context Protocol, allowing agents to trade and make payments within user-set limits.

The company is also offering Coinbase Advisor to eligible Coinbase One users in the US. The AI tool provides market insights and portfolio guidance, while users must approve trades before they are executed.
Machine Payments Gain Ground
Coinbase’s x402 protocol allows AI agents to pay for digital services such as APIs, data and computing using USDC. The company said more than 99% of onchain agentic commerce in the second quarter used USDC, while more than 97% of agentic transactions used x402.
Coinbase sees crypto becoming part of the infrastructure for software-driven commerce, while keeping people in control through spending limits and other safeguards.
