Polymarket has launched perpetual futures for eligible international users, expanding beyond event markets. The new product covers crypto, equities, indexes, and commodities through one trading interface.
Traders can use leverage of up to 20 times, depending on the contract and margin requirements. The rollout introduces a broader way to speculate on major financial markets. It also increases Polymarket’s competition with established derivatives platforms.
Ten Markets Open at Launch
The initial lineup includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and HYPE. It also covers gold, silver, West Texas Intermediate oil, the S&P 500, and Nasdaq 100. Additionally, traders can access a perpetual contract linked to SpaceX shares.
However, these contracts do not provide ownership of the underlying assets. Traders can instead take long or short positions based on price movements.
Moreover, perpetual contracts have no fixed expiration date. Funding payments help keep contract prices aligned with their reference markets.
Leverage Brings Greater Risk
Significantly, 20x leverage can amplify both profits and losses. A relatively small market move can therefore create substantial gains or trigger liquidation. Consequently, traders must maintain sufficient margin while positions remain open.
Polymarket restricts the international product from U.S. customers. The restriction follows its 2022 settlement with the CFTC. Hence, American traders cannot access the international leveraged platform.
