Forget Labubu: Meta’s Muse Charm Wants to Make AI Your New Pocket Pet 

For years, consumer AI hardware has largely focused on sleek, futuristic devices. Meta is taking a more playful approach: what if an AI assistant was cute enough to carry around like a charm?

Announced by Mark Zuckerberg at Meta Connect, Meta’s Muse Charm is a small wearable device designed to give users direct access to the company’s Muse AI agent. Roughly the size of an AirPods case, it looks like a miniature Apple Watch attached to a lanyard.

The Muse Charm was developed by Meta’s new design team, led by former Apple design executive Alan Dye. Instead of displaying traditional smartwatch information such as notifications or health data, the screen is built around a customizable, animated Muse character.

The Labubu Effect Meets AI Hardware

Muse Charm arrives as bag charms and collectible characters remain a visible part of fashion and pop culture. Labubu, in particular, helped turn small plush characters into accessories worn on handbags and backpacks.

Muse also has something in common with an older piece of technology: Tamagotchi. Like the 1990s digital pet, it puts a character on a small screen that users can interact with throughout the day. 

Users can customize the character, with options including Meta’s “Jolly” Muse mascot, an anthropomorphic mango, a labradoodle and a piece of toast wearing sunglasses.
