  • Metaplanet disclosed on October 5, 2026 that it sold 10,000 bitcoin and then reacquired 11,000 bitcoin, a net addition of 1,000 BTC ($85,688.00 · Live), in a transaction the company says was designed to demonstrate liquidity
  • The move accompanied the introduction of a new net interest income strategy and the release of Metaplanet’s third-quarter Bitcoin Income Generation Business results
  • Metaplanet separately disclosed a further revision to its capital allocation policy as part of the same batch of disclosures

Metaplanet, the Tokyo-listed company that has become Asia’s most prominent corporate bitcoin treasury, disclosed on its official investor disclosures page on October 5, 2026 a “Notice of Additional Purchase of Bitcoin (Including Sale and Reacquisition of Bitcoin to Demonstrate Liquidity),” describing a transaction in which it sold 10,000 bitcoin and then bought back 11,000 bitcoin, a net gain of 1,000 BTC for the company’s treasury.

The company framed the sale-and-reacquisition sequence explicitly as a demonstration of liquidity, an unusual disclosure that signals Metaplanet wanted to show markets it can move a large block of bitcoin in and out of its holdings without disrupting its own position or encountering execution problems. The net effect left Metaplanet with more bitcoin than it started with, since the 11,000 BTC repurchase exceeded the 10,000 BTC sold.

Alongside the liquidity demonstration, Metaplanet introduced what it is calling a net interest income strategy, part of a broader push by the company to generate additional returns on its balance sheet beyond simply holding bitcoin and waiting for price appreciation. The company also published its third-quarter results for its Bitcoin Income Generation Business, a unit Metaplanet has built specifically to produce yield-bearing returns tied to its core bitcoin holdings, and disclosed a further revision to its capital allocation policy in the same batch of filings.

Metaplanet has pursued an aggressive bitcoin accumulation strategy modeled closely on Strategy’s approach, using a combination of equity issuance, bond sales, and other financing mechanisms to fund regular bitcoin purchases since pivoting away from its original hotel business. The company’s disclosures have become closely watched in Asian markets as a bellwether for corporate bitcoin treasury adoption outside the United States, with Metaplanet’s share price often moving in tandem with announcements about its bitcoin holdings and financing activity.

The unusual structure of selling 10,000 BTC before immediately reacquiring 11,000 BTC suggests Metaplanet wanted to prove operational capacity to execute large trades efficiently, potentially ahead of future strategies that could require similarly sized transactions, such as using bitcoin as collateral for lending arrangements or executing larger treasury rebalancing moves. Combined with the new net interest income strategy and updated capital allocation policy, the October 5 disclosures point to a company actively experimenting with more sophisticated treasury management tools beyond simple buy-and-hold accumulation.
