The Zcash ETF has surpassed $1 billion in assets under management within 30 trading days of its launch, marking one of the strongest recent debuts in the exchange-traded fund market. Grayscale said the result reflects the crypto ETF sector’s expansion beyond Bitcoin and Ether as issuers explore broader digital-asset exposure.
Grayscale Managing Director Krista Lynch highlighted ZCSH’s performance at the Token2049 conference in Singapore, saying the fund ranked among the top 1% of ETFs launched over the past decade based on first-month performance. The milestone places Zcash among the digital assets gaining greater access to regulated investment products.

The development comes as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s standard listing criteria create a broader path for crypto ETF launches. Lynch said the framework covers about 15 tokens, allowing issuers to consider additional assets based on investor demand and their assessment of potential products.

Zcash ETF Reaches Major Milestone
The Grayscale had also found 27 digital assets ranging from artificial intelligence, decentralized finance, consumer applications, and infrastructure for possible ETF products. The larger variety implies that crypto funds have become diversified, but asset providers now have to find which crypto coins will be of continued interest to investors through regulated markets.
However, recent money flows imply that the Zcash ETF has experienced selling pressure despite having a successful start. According to 247WallSt, investors pulled about $59 million from ZCSH in the month of October. The ETF experienced outflows over the first four trading days of the month and did not see any new investment since September 22.
On the other hand, ZEC coin has performed differently over the same period. The coin is currently trading at $1,367, up by 2% in 24 hours and 11% in a month’s time. Even with the 4% drop over a week’s time, ZEC has been performing much higher compared to the same time last year.
ZCSH Outflows Contrast With ZEC Gains
The difference between fund flows and the underlying asset’s performance is important because a spot ETF holds the actual cryptocurrency behind its shares. When investors redeem shares, the fund may need to sell ZEC to raise cash, potentially adding coins to the market. However, ETF flows represent only one part of overall ZEC demand.
In turn, the other types of buyers of ZEC may include people who are buying it via crypto exchanges, keeping it in wallets, or holding it on the balance sheets of companies. Therefore, it is evident that outflows from ZCSH do not necessarily mean that the total demand for Zcash is decreasing.
However, there was also an additional outflow worth $30 million from the fund on September 30. However, according to the data from Grayscale, its end-of-September portfolio consisted of almost $876 million of ZEC. Thus, the $59 million outflow observed in October accounted for around 7% of the latter figure.
New Zcash Products Increase Competition
The Zcash ETF market is gaining another potential rival in the form of an ETF investment fund that belongs to the Winklevoss brothers. As reported by 247WallSt, a fund associated with the Winklevoss twins revealed on October 6 its plans to invest up to $100 million into a second Zcash ETF that it will be launching soon.
This development is happening amid an increasing interest in privacy-oriented digital assets, with Santiment noting that privacy coins are one of the trends in the cryptocurrency market this year, along with ZEC having shown significant growth for the year to date. This has attracted more attention to Zcash aside from the community already using it.
For the ZCSH traders, however, the recent downtrend away from ZEC’s late-September highs could also explain why there are withdrawals from the ETF. At the time of the peak, ZEC had gone up to around $1,698 only to drop almost 20% since then.
Grayscale Expands Crypto ETF Strategy
Apart from the Zcash ETF, Grayscale is seeking further developments. Following the introduction of the innovation exemption by the SEC, the company filed for tokenization of two previously existing funds of Bitcoin and Ether covered calls. Both these funds function under the Investment Company Act, indicating Grayscale’s intent to combine traditional funds with blockchain technology.
As mentioned by Lynch, the innovation exemption was only a limited comfort for crypto industry following the failure of the Clarity Act; however, this innovation exemption provides some hope for achieving tokenization for the industry. Apart from this, crypto companies including Grayscale have recently requested SEC to reduce ETF review time frame and allow confidential drafts.
ZCSH has delivered a strong launch while experiencing meaningful recent withdrawals. The fact that Zcash ETF has achieved the $1 billion mark shows the demand for the ZEC ETFs, although it is shown that the growth of assets can coexist with withdrawals of investors.
