Strategy, the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin (BTC), announced on October 12 that it purchased 250 BTC between October 5 and 11, marking its fourth consecutive week of acquisitions.
In the same week, the company spent $192.4 million repurchasing its own STRC preferred shares, roughly nine times more than it spent on bitcoin.
Strategy Details Bitcoin Purchase and STRC Repurchase
Strategy spent approximately $21.5 million, including fees and other expenses, on the latest purchase, at an average of $86,194 per bitcoin.

As of October 11, the company held 848,250 BTC. Its cumulative investment, including fees and expenses, was approximately $64 billion, at an average price of $75,444 per bitcoin.
The company repurchased 1,932,145 STRC shares for $192.4 million, an average of $99.58 per share. It also reported a $4.88 billion reserve to cover dividends and interest, plus $640.5 million in cash for general corporate needs.

Why Strategy Priority Shifted to STRC Buybacks
Strategy has raised money to buy Bitcoin in several ways, including preferred shares such as STRC.
Holders typically receive fixed dividends and have priority over common shareholders when it comes to dividend payments and claims on the company’s remaining assets.
In a June 29, 2026 announcement, Strategy set a 12% annual dividend rate on STRC and a goal of keeping its market price between $99 and $100, against a $100 par value.
Repurchasing the shares below their $100 par value lets Strategy shrink the capital on which dividends are calculated while spending less than it originally raised. That can reduce future dividend payments and add financial flexibility.
Last week’s figures show spending tilted heavily toward STRC. The new bitcoin was also bought well above the company’s $75,444 overall average. That does not necessarily signal weaker conviction in Bitcoin, but it shows the firm currently sees value in cutting future dividend obligations.
On the Flipside
- Strategy kept buying BTC for a fourth straight week, so the buyback alone does not show reduced Bitcoin conviction.
- The $86,194 average price on new purchases raises the cost basis above the $75,444 overall average.
Why This Matters
Strategy’s latest move shows that accumulating Bitcoin is no longer its only priority. The company spent nearly nine times more on STRC buybacks than on BTC, highlighting its focus on managing dividend costs and preserving financial flexibility.
For retail investors, the takeaway is clear: corporate Bitcoin purchases are not a standalone bullish signal. How companies finance those purchases and manage their liabilities matters just as much.
