Celo Core Co. Launches buy Marketplace for Autonomous Agent Payments

Celo Core Co. announced the launch of buy, a services marketplace designed to enable AI agents to autonomously purchase services using stablecoins, according to an October 13, 2026 blog post by the organization. The marketplace offers more than 700 services spanning compute, data, and APIs, with agents able to pay directly in USDC, USD₮, or USA₮ without human intervention for account creation or API key management.

The announcement states that agents operating on Celo can now “ask for a service, receive a price quote, and pay for it directly from its own wallet, all without a human creating an account, copying an API key, or keeping a subscription current.” Launch partners include Chainstack, Cencori, and SQD, according to the post.

Stablecoin Payment Infrastructure

The buy marketplace operates on Celo, an Ethereum Layer 2 network. Celo Core Co. is the unified engineering and ecosystem organization supporting Celo, formed through the July 2026 alignment of the Celo Foundation and cLabs into one operating structure while maintaining community governance of the network itself. The organization’s September 16, 2026 newsletter reported 450,000-plus daily active users on Celo and identified Anchorage Digital Bank as the issuer of USA₮, which deployed to Celo on July 29, 2026. That update also noted that all three stablecoins—USDC, USD₮, and USA₮—support native fee payment on Celo, eliminating the need for a separate gas token.

The October 13 announcement describes Celo as “built for fast, sub-cent transactions” and states that an agent can complete payments “within seconds using the stablecoin its owner already holds.”

Identity Verification and Access Controls

The marketplace integrates Self, described in the announcement as “the privacy-first proof-of-human and identity layer for the agentic web.” According to the post, Self binds an agent’s signing key to a zero-knowledge proof confirming that “one real, unique human stands behind it.” Celo Core Co. stated that buy uses this verification to gate access to certain services, citing Google Cloud’s largest machines as an example: these are rented “only to agents that can present a Self proof confirming a real, verified adult is behind the request.”

Lena Hierzi, Celo Core Co. Developer Relations Lead, said in the announcement: “Agents have been held back because most tools are built for humans: accounts, API keys, subscriptions. buy removes those steps by letting agents pay per request in stablecoins on Celo, which makes them assistants that can act instead of just suggest.”

Broader Agentic Tooling Ecosystem

The announcement positions buy within a suite of agent-focused products developed by Celo Core Co. in 2026, including AskBots, where “AI agents review builders’ work for pay,” and Celo’s native facilitator at x402.celo.org, which settles x402 and MPP payments. The organization stated that its facilitator was the first to support local currency agentic payments, settling Ripio’s Argentine Peso, Brazilian Real, and Colombian Peso stablecoins (wARS, wBRL, and wCOP), and the first to bring USA₮ to x402 payments. The post added that Ripio’s Mexican Peso, Chilean Peso, and Peruvian Sol stablecoins (wMXN, wCLP, and wPEN) are next to be added.

Developers can integrate buy into an agent’s toolchain using the command npm i -g @celo/buy for Claude Code or Codex, according to the announcement. The full service catalogue is available at usebuy.ai.
