TLDR

  • Ripple and Stripe-owned Privy are partnering to let developers add XRP Ledger wallets to their apps.
  • The wallets will support XRP, the RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the network.
  • AI agents can use the wallets to pay for online services through the x402 standard.
  • The XRPL AI Hub shows more than 14.3 million transactions across 169 merchants.
  • Total value moved is small, at about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD.

Ripple has teamed up with Privy, a wallet infrastructure company owned by Stripe, to bring embedded wallets to the XRP Ledger. The announcement was made on Tuesday. It lets developers add XRP Ledger wallets to their apps without building the wallet technology themselves.

Developers will be able to create and manage wallets, sign transactions and support XRP, Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the network. Customers will not need to set up a separate crypto wallet. This could help payment companies offer dollar-linked transfers without users managing their own private keys.

How the Wallets Work

Privy handles the wallet infrastructure, which reduces what app builders need to create on their own. Users can still export their private keys and recovery phrases if they want to move their wallets to another service.

Stripe bought Privy last year, but the company still operates separately. The deal comes as Stripe expands its stablecoin and crypto business.

“Stablecoins are changing how money moves, and XRPL has been building for payments from the start,” said Henri Stern, co-founder and CEO of Privy and head of crypto and stablecoins at Stripe. Markus Infanger, senior vice president of RippleX at Ripple, said Privy brings proven wallet infrastructure to fintechs and developers.

Companies can also give AI agents funded wallets to pay for online services. Privy said wallets run from a company’s servers can let software hold and spend funds. This includes payments through x402, a standard for buying access to data and other services.

For example, an agent can request paid data, receive a payment request and authorize payment. It then gets the data once the payment is verified. No person has to open a checkout page each time.

AI Payment Activity on the Network

The news follows a rise in such transactions on the XRP Ledger. RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele said on X last week that the network had processed more than 13 million agent payments through x402. He said this was roughly 25% of ledger activity.

The XRPL AI Hub, run by payment infrastructure developer t54, showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants as of Wednesday. However, the value moved was much smaller than the count suggests.

The dashboard recorded about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD in total payments. Many transactions involve very small amounts. This fits with software paying for single requests rather than making large transfers.

CoinDesk asked the XRP Ledger Foundation about apps using the integration. It also asked for data on how much network activity comes from AI agents.

Ripple began offering developers payment tools in June. Agents could create wallets, check balances and pay for services using XRP or RLUSD. In September, Ripple expanded the kit to support a standard built by Stripe and the payments blockchain Tempo.

Privy said it plans to add policy controls and gas sponsorship over time. These would let developers set rules for transactions and cover network fees for users.

A new wallet still needs funding before it can be used. Privy’s documentation says a new XRP Ledger account must first receive the network’s minimum reserve, currently 1 XRP. That is true even if the customer only wants to send dollar-pegged stablecoins.
