Cardano’s founder Charles Hoskinson has quipped that Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney could be a holder of XRP after Ripple’s CTO Emeritus David Schwartz shared an amusing photo from Times Square in New York City.
Schwartz kick-started an odd chain of events by posting a selfie in front of a gigantic billboard for Sydney Sweeney’s latest project for a sports prediction marketplace Novig.
Not long after, Hoskinson joined the chat with a hilarious follow-up comment: “I knew she had XRP.”
Then, Schwartz posted a new selfie from the same spot. This time, a series of vibrant green billboards to celebrate Evernorth’s Nasdaq listing. “Got it this time!”XRP Ledger’s co-creator quipped.
The photos were snapped against the backdrop of Evernorth’s important milestone: the XRP treasury company celebrated its arrival on the public markets by ringing the Nasdaq closing bell on Oct. 14.
Evernorth started trading under the XRPN ticker on Oct. 12. The company made its public debut with 473 million XRP in its treasury and $300 million in gross cash proceeds.
Two prominent names in the crypto space cracking jokes about the whole affair amused many in the XRP community, who also jumped on the bandwagon.
New controversial campaign from Sydney Sweeney
The billboard in the selfie Schwartz shared is part of Sweeney’s new and provocative ad campaign for Novig, which is a sports-related prediction market.
The “Just Sports” campaign came out on Sept. 9 and showed the actress almost topless, strategically covering herself with sports gear.
The ad was highly controversial. Many female athletes went on record to voice their frustration over the sexualization of the campaign, but Sweeney’s defenders have rejected such accusations as ridiculous.
Earlier, Sweeney was also at the center of a crypto controversy. In July 2024, her X account was hacked to promote a fake Solana-based SWEENEY meme coin.
The hackers posted messages that misleadingly claimed Sydney Sweeney was endorsing the token. The posts were eventually removed.
In July 2025, unverified reports surfaced that Ripple had allegedly hired Sydney Sweeney for a promotional campaign for XRP. However, an official announcement about the partnership never came.
