Anthropic told investors its third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday. The report cited people familiar with the matter.

The company shared the numbers at a closed meeting in San Francisco. The full day of presentations came ahead of its planned November IPO.

Profit and spending details

Anthropic said it was profitable on an adjusted basis in the third quarter. It was the second straight quarter of reported profit.

The company also told investors it was cash flow positive. It said it made $1.70 in revenue for every $1 spent on computing power.

The Financial Times noted that growth was slower than earlier in 2026. It was also below some expectations.

Annualized revenue is expected to come in below the $100 billion figure that investors watch closely. That number has been a key marker for the company.

Last week, Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5. The company said it costs an average of 75% less than Haiku 4.5.

Customers pay $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per output token. That matches the price of OpenAI’s smallest model, GPT-6 Luna.

IPO plans and rivals

Anthropic privately filed its S-1 paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1. Wall Street is still waiting for the public filing.

Analysts are eyeing a record $2 trillion valuation. The company is expected to start its IPO this fall.

OpenAI is holding off on its IPO until early 2027, according to Bloomberg. It is instead looking to raise $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion valuation.

The Financial Times also reported that investors cut their estimate of OpenAI’s annualized revenue from $70 billion to $50 billion. Investors had miscalculated the figure while trying to match it to Anthropic’s run rate.

The Financial Times said Anthropic has fallen behind OpenAI in recent months, after OpenAI released its GPT-6 Astra model. Cheaper Chinese AI models are also competing for customers.

Earlier this month, President Trump met AI executives, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. They signed an agreement to have independent auditors review their models for suspicious behavior.

The Investing.com report showed Nvidia shares down 3.16% at the time of publication on Thursday.
