A solo Bitcoin miner operating with minimal computing power defied overwhelming odds early Thursday, successfully solving a block and claiming the entire subsidy along with the transaction fee reward.

Solo Miner Wins $222K In Rare Feat

The miner validated block 944,306 using solo.ckpool.org, an anonymous solo mining pool launched in 2014 that allows participants to retain the full block reward, minus a 2% fee. According to Bitcoin explorer Mempool, the reward included 3.125 BTC in block subsidy (about $222,012) along with roughly 0.003 BTC (around $212) collected from transaction fees.

CKpool developer Con Kolivas confirmed the win on X, highlighting just how rare the feat was—saying the miner faced roughly a 1-in-100,000 chance of striking a block on any given day.

The solo miner’s hashpower accounted for just about 0.0000069% of Bitcoin’s estimated total network hashrate of roughly 1.02 zetahashes per second as of April 9. Such a modest contribution suggests the setup was likely a small cluster of home-based ASIC machines operating under one roof, rather than a large industrial mining farm or rented cloud infrastructure.

By comparison, publicly listed miners Bitdeer Technologies Group and MARA Holdings run vastly larger operations, reporting hashrates of about 71 EH/s and 61.7 EH/s, respectively, based on recent filings.

Solo Block Victories Remain Exceptionally Uncommon

The block represents the 313th solo win recorded on CKpool since its launch, extending a trend of unexpectedly frequent solo victories throughout the current cycle.

In November, an extremely lucky miner operating at just 6 TH/s—equivalent to a single older-generation ASIC that would typically take centuries to find a block—defied monumental 1-in-180-million odds to pocket a reward of around $266,000.

In December, a miner with around 270 TH/s of hashpower overcame roughly 1-in-30,000 daily odds to take home a reward of about $284,661.

And just last week, another miner operating through CKpool in a solo setup earned roughly $210,000 after mining block 943,411, bringing an end to a 33-day stretch without a CKpool block.
