A major development bridging decentralized finance (DeFi) and Bitcoin liquidity

A formal Aave Request for Comment (ARFC) has been published on the Aave governance forum proposing the integration of native Bitcoin as collateral for Aave V4.

The integration relies on Babylon Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV), marking a potential leap forward for unlocking yield and borrowing power directly from idle Bitcoin reserves without relying on wrapped or centralized bridge tokens.

Inside the Aave V4 Proposal

The newly submitted governance framework outlines a deeply integrated model designed to connect Bitcoin capital markets directly with the Aave ecosystem. By utilizing Babylon’s architecture, Bitcoin holders can secure network consensus while simultaneously routing asset collateral utilization into Aave V4 liquidity pools.

The proposal establishes two specialized network spokes alongside explicit revenue-sharing mechanisms. Furthermore, the economic model is designed to automate buybacks for both the AAVE and BABY tokens, directly tying incoming Bitcoin-backed volume to the growth and utility of the underlying protocol economies.

De-Fi Horizon

While the proposal still requires formal Aave governance review, security audits, and risk parameter approvals before final implementation, market participants have widely praised the initiative as a critical step toward unifying fragmented liquidity.

As decentralized lending protocols compete to capture multi-chain capital, bringing trillions of dollars in passive Bitcoin liquidity natively on-chain via trustless infrastructure could redefine credit markets heading into late 2026.
