AAVE is bleeding 6.1% on the session at $136.74 with momentum flatlined and taker sell flow dominating the tape — a near-term flush toward the $129–$133 demand zone looks probable, but smart money …

AAVE Price Prediction: Shakeout to $129 Before Whales Reload — Don't Get Caught Offsides

A 6% Drop With a Story Behind It: AAVE’s Uncomfortable Setup

Let’s not sugarcoat it. AAVE getting slapped 6.1% in a single session — going from a high of $145.98 all the way down to a low of $135.68 and settling near the floor — is not just routine profit-taking. That’s distribution. The asset spent the better part of the session pressing against the upper Bollinger Band and got rejected hard. Now it’s hugging the day’s lows with $63 million in open interest and a derivatives market that is quietly unwinding, with OI contracting by 3.54% over the past 24 hours.

The structural picture, though, still belongs to the bulls. AAVE is trading well above every meaningful moving average — the 200-day simple moving average sits down at $97.74, and even the 50-day is parked below $114. That’s a 20%-plus cushion before you even start talking about a trend breakdown. The bull trend that carried AAVE out of the triple-digit graveyard is alive. But alive doesn’t mean you buy the dip blindly right here.

Momentum Stalled at the Worst Possible Spot on the Chart

Here’s the technical reality: buyers are hesitating at exactly the wrong place. With the MACD histogram sitting at a dead flat zero — signal line and MACD line converging to a standstill — the bullish impulse that carried AAVE off the $97 lows has fully exhausted. This isn’t bearish confirmation yet, but it’s a flashing yellow light. The momentum engine is idling.

The RSI at 59.92 keeps AAVE technically in the neutral zone, but the direction of travel matters more than the absolute reading. That RSI was almost certainly higher days ago. It’s cooling from what was likely an overbought condition, and with the Stochastic %K at 69.65 now well ahead of the %D at 55.72, a bearish crossover on the Stochastic is the next obvious risk — one more leg lower would trigger it cleanly.

The Bollinger Band setup is what really tells the story. At a %B reading of 0.81, AAVE was essentially kissing the upper band at $141.22 before today’s rejection. The middle band — which now also happens to align almost exactly with the $129.17 strong support level — sits at $129.40. In a mean-reversion move from the upper band, a tag of the middle band is textbook. That’s your target on the downside: the $129–$133 corridor. Immediate support at $132.95 is the first line that needs to hold. Below that, the $129 zone is where I’d expect real buyers to show up.

The pivot point at $139.47 and immediate resistance at $143.25 now form a ceiling that AAVE needs to reclaim on a closing basis to neutralize the bearish short-term narrative. Until price trades back above $143.25 with conviction, every rally attempt is a short opportunity for the nimble.

Smart Money Is Stacking Longs, But the Real-Time Tape Is Ugly

Here’s where it gets interesting — and where most retail traders get it completely wrong. The taker buy/sell ratio is sitting at 0.7765, meaning aggressive sellers are outpacing buyers nearly 1.3-to-1 in real-time flow. That’s the market microstructure equivalent of bears owning the steering wheel right now. Sell pressure is not passive; it’s being initiated.

And yet, top traders — the whale and institutional-tier accounts Binance tracks separately — are positioned 60.5% long versus 39.5% short. Retail sits at 55.3% long. So you have a situation where smart money is holding long exposure while real-time order flow is selling aggressively. This is a classic accumulation-under-pressure setup, and it cuts both ways. Either the whales know something and are absorbing this sell-off ahead of a rip, or they’re about to get squeezed if $132.95 breaks with momentum.

The funding rate at a flat 0.0100% removes the crowded-long liquidation risk for now — there’s no frothy premium baked in that needs to be flushed. That’s a slight relief. But with OI declining as price falls, this isn’t a squeeze setup yet. Contracts are being closed, not flipped. Stay sharp on that.

Blockchain.news has been tracking the broader DeFi liquidity cycle, which remains a critical backdrop for understanding whether AAVE’s on-chain utilization is supporting or undermining this price structure.

The Two Scenarios Playing Out Over the Next 30 Days

The Bull Case (55% probability over 30 days): AAVE finds its footing in the $129–$133 demand corridor. The $129.40 middle Bollinger Band and the $129.17 strong support level converging in the same zone makes this a technically meaningful floor. If that zone holds and taker buy flow starts recovering, the next move is a reclaim of $143.25, and from there the door opens to a full retest of $149.77 — the strong resistance level — and potentially a breakout above $150 into price discovery territory. With all major moving averages stacked well below current levels and smart money holding long, the path of least resistance for a 30-day horizon still tilts bullish. Target: $149–$155. Invalidation: a daily close below $127.

The Bear Case (45% probability over 30 days): The $132.95 immediate support breaks on volume, the Stochastic bearish crossover confirms, and AAVE loses the $129 zone. Below there, the next meaningful technical reference is the 50-day SMA at $113.97. A broader crypto market risk-off event — Bitcoin losing key support, regulatory headline shock, or a general DeFi liquidity drain — could accelerate that move faster than most longs are positioned for. If $129 fails, don’t stand in front of it. The ATR at $7.92 means a two-ATR extension lower would clip $121 in a matter of sessions. Target on breakdown: $112–$118. Invalidation: price reclaims $143.25 and holds.

The setup for AAVE over the next week is simple: the $129–$133 range is the entire game. Bulls need to defend it; bears need to break it. Everything else is noise. Given that smart money is leaning long and the macro trend is structurally intact, I give the edge to the buyers — but not before at least one more uncomfortable leg lower shakes out the weak hands who bought the recent rip without a stop.

Watch the $132.95 level like a hawk on the next 24-hour candle. For ongoing DeFi market intelligence as this trade develops, Blockchain.news remains a reliable resource for protocol-level context.
