Advanced Micro Devices stock jumped roughly 5% on Monday after the company announced a major expansion of its partnership with Microsoft Azure.

At the center of the deal is AMD Helios — the company’s first rack-scale AI system. Microsoft will deploy Helios to power frontier model AI inference across Azure services and customer applications.
AMD said Helios bundles Instinct MI455X GPUs, EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking, and ROCm software into a single integrated platform built for large-scale AI training and inference.

AMD will begin shipping Helios to customers, including Microsoft, in the second half of 2026.
Beyond Helios, Azure is adding two new VM series powered by 6th Gen AMD EPYC Venice processors. The Azure HDv2 will target agentic AI and data pipelines, while Azure HXv2 is aimed at semiconductor design workloads.
The partnership also expands into the networking layer. Microsoft and AMD are integrating Azure Boost with AMD’s Pensando DPUs to improve networking performance and efficiency across cloud infrastructure.
A Competitive Move Against Nvidia
Helios represents AMD’s most direct challenge to Nvidia in the data center AI space. While Nvidia continues to dominate AI chip deployments, AMD is pushing hard with a full-stack solution that spans silicon, networking, and software.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the value of choice for customers. “We are expanding the Azure infrastructure portfolio with AMD Helios to give customers the performance, scale and choice they need to build and run the next generation of AI applications,” he said.
AMD CEO Lisa Su echoed the tone, calling Microsoft’s new deployments “an important milestone” in scaling next-generation AI infrastructure.
More Big Names Already On Board
Microsoft is not arriving alone to Helios. According to CNBC, Meta, OpenAI, and Oracle are already early customers for the platform.
That list puts AMD’s new rack-scale system alongside some of the heaviest AI compute users in the industry.
The expanded collaboration also gives Azure customers access to AMD-powered infrastructure through Azure Foundry Managed Compute, allowing enterprise users to deploy and scale production AI workloads.
Microsoft stock dipped about 1% on the news.
The companies confirmed AMD will begin Helios shipments to customers in the second half of 2026.
