The stock was trading at $127.65 in pre-market, up 7.7% at that point, and has now advanced 36% year-to-date. It had been trading well below its 52-week high of $165.45 before the announcement, having previously recovered from a low of $69.78.

Adjusted EPS came in at $1.59, just above the Wall Street consensus of $1.57 to $1.58. Revenue grew 5% year-over-year to $1.1 billion, matching or slightly ahead of analyst forecasts of $1.09 billion.

But the earnings beat was not really the story here.

An unnamed U.S. technology company signed a four-year contract worth more than $600 million to use Akamai’s Cloud Infrastructure Services to power robotics development. CEO Tom Leighton described the deal as proof that Akamai is becoming “a key infrastructure provider for the AI-driven economy.”

Big Contracts Piling Up

This is not the first major deal of the year. In May, Akamai announced a $1.8 billion multi-year CIS contract with what it described as a “leading frontier model provider.” Combined with the new $600 million robotics deal, Akamai has now locked in $2.8 billion in multi-year CIS commitments in 2026 alone.

Evercore ISI analyst Peter Levine said the latest contract is “another proof point supporting the bull case” and added that he “would not be surprised if additional nine-figure commitments are announced over the coming quarters.”

Guggenheim analyst John DiFucci said the firm believes Akamai’s background in internet performance and security will position it well for “providing inference at the edge” in the AI era.

Cloud Infrastructure Services revenue rose 39% year-over-year to $99 million in Q2. Security revenue grew 10% to $604 million. The legacy delivery business declined 6%, but the growth segments more than covered the gap.

What Management Is Guiding

For Q3, the company is guiding revenue of $1.11 billion to $1.13 billion, with EPS of $1.60 to $1.80. The midpoints of both ranges are roughly in line with analyst consensus, though slightly below on the revenue side.

Full-year EPS guidance was narrowed to $6.40 to $7.05, tightened from the previous $6.40 to $7.15 range.

Management said cloud infrastructure revenue is expected to accelerate in Q4, with overall company revenue growth projected to move from single digits in 2026 into the low teens in 2027.

A DA Davidson investor conference call with Akamai management was scheduled for Friday, adding another near-term touchpoint for institutional investors.

Oppenheimer and Evercore ISI both held Outperform-equivalent ratings heading into the earnings print.
