Anthropic Launches Claude Sonnet 5: Mid-Tier AI with Opus-Level Features

Anthropic has officially launched Claude Sonnet 5, its most advanced mid-tier AI model to date, designed to handle complex, multi-step tasks at a competitive price point. Announced on June 30, 2026, the model replaces the Sonnet 4.6 as the default option for its Free and Pro users, while also being available to enterprise clients.

Claude Sonnet 5 narrows the performance gap with Anthropic’s higher-end Opus 4.8 model, offering significant improvements in reasoning, coding, and tool utilization capabilities.
