Binance has introduced x402, which allows HTTP-native programmable payments on BNB Chain.
The crypto exchange shared this information in a new tweet. Binance x402 is a Binance Pay payment facilitator for BNB Chain, designed to help developers and merchants unlock new ways to offer and monetize digital services, from APIs and data platforms to agent tools and automated workflows.
Binance x402 is built for agent-driven and software-native commerce, supporting off-chain authorization and on-chain settlement for automated, usage-based payments.
Binance x402 uses standard HTTP 402 payment flows and allows services like APIs, MCP servers, tools, data platforms, and agent workflows to request and receive payments in a programmable way.
Programmable payment layer arrives on BNB Chain
Binance x402 marks an important step toward a more programmable payment layer for BNB Chain. As agents become more capable at finding information, executing tasks, and interacting across services, seamless payment flows will be essential to making those workflows truly autonomous.
This comes as the rapid rise of AI agents is beginning to reshape how payments happen online, and crypto infrastructure is emerging as a natural fit. This shift is sparking interest in so-called “agentic payments,” where AI systems can autonomously pay for services like data access, compute, or travel bookings.
An increasing number of directories and marketplaces now list AI agents, tools, and autonomous workflows designed to complete tasks across the internet.
Global AI spending is projected to reach $2.52 trillion in 2026, an increase of 44% from 2025, reports said.
As agents become more autonomous, they need a way to pay for the services they use. Binance x402 meets that need by bringing HTTP-native payments to BNB Chain.
x402 refers to an open, neutral standard for internet-native payments and absolves the internet’s original sin by natively making payments possible between clients and servers.
