Bitcoin wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC, the tier commonly labeled “whales,” added roughly 66,700 BTC to their holdings over the 60 days ending July 19, worth about $4.3 billion at current prices, according to Cointelegraph. Over the same stretch, wallets holding 100 to 1,000 BTC sold off close to 77,800 BTC, and Bitcoin’s price barely reacted, holding between $64,500 and $64,700 through mid-July.

Whales Bought, Mid-Sized Holders Sold

The 66,700 BTC added by whale wallets is the second-largest accumulation wave CryptoQuant has recorded this year, trailing only a roughly 68,000 BTC net gain the same cohort posted in mid-June. Two accumulation events of that size within roughly five weeks of each other send a different signal than a single spike. They point to sustained buying rather than a one-off move by a handful of large wallets.

The mid-tier cohort moved in the opposite direction. Wallets in the 100 to 1,000 BTC range, holders large enough to matter but well below whale size, distributed about 77,800 BTC during the same 60-day window. That split, large wallets buying while mid-sized wallets sell, happened while spot price stayed roughly flat, which is the detail that stands out most in the data.

What This Means for Everyday Holders

For anyone holding a smaller amount of Bitcoin, this kind of wallet-level data is a read on sentiment among the largest holders, not a signal to act on immediately. It shows that the largest wallets kept buying into a flat market rather than waiting for a price drop or chasing a rally. You can check our Bitcoin News Hub for more context on how this fits into the overall price trend. It isn’t a guarantee of what the price will do next, and beginners should treat it as context rather than a trading signal.

The $64,500 to $64,700 Range Is the Level to Watch

With whale buying absorbing a large share of what mid-tier holders sold, the next question is whether that flat $64,500 to $64,700 range holds or breaks. A confirmed move outside that band, in either direction, would be the first real test of whether this accumulation wave shows up in price.

Readers new to wallet cohort data can find more background in our guide on how crypto whales operate, which breaks down what these wallet tiers mean and why large holders often move differently than smaller ones.

What this means for you: If you’re new to Bitcoin, the key point is that large holders added billions of dollars worth of BTC while smaller holders sold, and the price still hasn’t moved, so this is a data point on sentiment worth watching, not a signal to buy or sell on.
