BitcoinIRA, the platform that pioneered cryptocurrency retirement investing, said on September 1 that it has launched Freedom Accounts, individual taxable crypto investment accounts that let clients invest in digital assets outside the contribution and withdrawal rules that govern an IRA. The new product, announced in a company release, extends the firm beyond retirement for the first time and places taxable and retirement crypto holdings in a single dashboard, giving eligible clients a way to consolidate supported cryptocurrency they already own.

Taxable Crypto Investing Without IRA Limits

Unlike a retirement account, a Freedom Account carries no annual IRA contribution limits, no required minimum distributions, and no retirement-age withdrawal restrictions. Clients can fund the account with cash or move supported digital assets directly from external platforms and wallets. The accounts arrive alongside staking on eligible assets and Crypto Bundles, BitcoinIRA’s diversified crypto portfolios, giving the company’s more than 200,000 customers a taxable counterpart to the self-directed IRAs it has offered since 2016, when it became the first firm to let Americans hold Bitcoin in a self-directed IRA.

In-Kind Transfers Avoid Forced Sales

A central feature is the in-kind transfer, which lets users move supported cryptocurrency from exchanges such as Coinbase, Kraken, and Robinhood into a Freedom Account without first selling the assets, transferring cash, and repurchasing them. That matters for investors who want to consolidate holdings without triggering a taxable sale or losing a position during a market move. BitcoinIRA supports more than 100 cryptocurrencies with 24/7 trading and institutional-grade custody through Digital Trust and BitGo.

Expanding Beyond Retirement

“BitcoinIRA pioneered crypto retirement investing, but our clients’ financial lives don’t stop at their IRA,” said Chris Kline, Co-Founder of BitcoinIRA, in the announcement. “Freedom Accounts are the next step in expanding our platform.” The launch reflects a broader push to bring retirement capital into digital assets that BlockchainReporter has tracked, and it follows Washington’s efforts to open 401(k) plans to cryptocurrency.

A Single Platform for Every Crypto Investor

Freedom Accounts are designed to complement a BitcoinIRA retirement account rather than replace it. While Crypto IRAs provide the tax advantages of qualified retirement accounts, the new taxable accounts add flexibility for everyday digital-asset investing, letting eligible clients manage both account types through one dashboard. BitcoinIRA Freedom Accounts are available now and are automatically included with eligible BitcoinIRA accounts.
