Shares of BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) soared 13% to reach $20.72 during Wednesday’s trading session, propelled by Bitcoin’s climb beyond the $68,000 threshold for the first time in several months. The cryptocurrency rally drove significant gains across digital asset-related equities.

Bitcoin was changing hands at $68,500, marking a 6% gain over the previous 24-hour period. Ethereum reached $2,089. The cryptocurrency surge boosted Strategy (MSTR) by 13% to $104.72, while Coinbase (COIN) advanced 11% to $162.88.
The rally wasn’t driven by any specific BitMine announcement. Instead, the upward movement reflects a broader recovery from summer lows, potentially aided by the SEC’s recently proposed “Regulation Crypto Assets” framework.
BitMine maintains a substantial Ethereum treasury. The firm controls 5.82 million ETH tokens, comprising 4.8% of Ethereum’s entire circulating supply, with 5.07 million tokens currently staked.
Company leadership announced Monday that BitMine’s aggregate holdings—spanning cryptocurrency assets, cash reserves, and strategic investments—total $11.4 billion. According to management, the company has achieved 96% of its objective to control 5% of all circulating ETH.
Ethereum Strategy and Tom Lee’s Vision
Chairman Tom Lee maintains this substantial Ethereum position personally, establishing himself among the largest institutional holders of the cryptocurrency. Lee shared on Wednesday that digital assets are “more relevant today given the rapidly increasing capabilities of AI and robotics,” describing Ethereum as “the most important L1.”
These remarks followed a BlackRock analysis entitled “Re-Underwriting Bitcoin,” which examined Bitcoin’s 50% decline from its October 2025 peak. Notably, BlackRock’s report doesn’t reference Ethereum, robotics, or artificial intelligence, indicating Lee’s interpretation extends well beyond the original document’s scope.
Share Repurchase Program Continues
In tandem with its cryptocurrency accumulation strategy, BitMine has actively repurchased its own shares. The company acquired 1.7 million common shares during the previous week, elevating total buybacks under its $4 billion authorization to more than 20.8 million shares.
This aggressive repurchase activity suggests management aims to bolster share value while simultaneously expanding its digital asset holdings.
Wednesday’s gains notwithstanding, BMNR stock remains 33% lower year-to-date through Tuesday’s market close. Strategy has fallen 39%, while Coinbase has dropped approximately 35% during the equivalent timeframe.
This represents the most significant single-day advance for cryptocurrency-linked stocks throughout the summer period. However, the gain occurs within a challenging 2026 for the sector overall.
BMNR shares fluctuated between $18.37 and $20.89 during the session, with trading volume reaching 38.41 million shares.
