- US PPI came in flat at 0.0% MoM versus +0.2% expected, but Bitcoin stalled and failed to break higher levels.
- USD/INR nears ₹95.5, as the weaker rupee cushions any BTC/USD weakness and keeps BTC-INR expensive.
- Indian traders should watch whether further dollar BTC dips translate into cheaper Bitcoin in rupee terms.
The U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) came in flat at 0.0% Month-over-Month, falling short of the expected +0.2%, while USD/INR held steady in the ₹95.30–₹95.50 range. The softer wholesale inflation data would normally put the dollar under pressure, but the rupee was limited by other structural and regional factors.
US PPI at 0.0% Versus +0.2% Expected, But Bitcoin Stalls
On August 13, 2026, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released July 2026 PPI data showing wholesale prices unchanged at 0.0% MoM. This came in softer than the +0.2% consensus forecast and followed a revised -0.1% reading in June. On a YoY basis, the PPI slowed sharply to 4.7% from 5.5% in June, also underperforming the 4.9% expectation.
At the same time, the Core PPI, excluding food and energy, rose 0.2% MoM, compared with the expected increase of 0.3%, and dropped to 4.2% YoY, from 4.7% YoY. The softness was driven by goods prices, which fell 0.7%, led by a 3.1% drop in energy costs and a 0.9% decline in food prices. Final demand for services also posted a 0.2% gain, while final demand excluding food, energy and trade services rose 0.4%.
However, Bitcoin (BTC) was not significantly affected by the softer PPI data as it continued to stall. BTC traded in a narrow range around $63,500 – $63,700, with intraday moves mostly confined within the $63,300 – $64,000 range.

Rupee Nears ₹95.5, Keeping BTC-INR Expensive for Indian Traders
The Indian rupee is near multi month lows against the U.S. Dollar with USD/INR trading around ₹95.35 to ₹95.50 and closing at around ₹95.45 in some reports. The pair is approaching the psychologically important ₹95.5 level, leaving Indian traders to assess Bitcoin through both its dollar price and the rupee’s weakness.
Additionally, as BTC/USD continues to be range-bound between $63,500 and $63,700, the local currency value for Bitcoin falls around ₹60.5 – ₹60.8 lakh per BTC. This implies that a fall in BTC/USD may not necessarily translate into a proportional fall in the price of Bitcoin for Indian buyers as additional devaluation of the Indian Rupee may offset the dollar price decline and ensure that BTC-INR stays high.
What a Further BTC/USD Dip Means for Indian Traders
A further decline in BTC/USD price would look appealing on the global chart, but for Indian traders, the net effect in rupees highly depends on the concurrent movement of USD/INR. At press time, BTC traded at $63,569.53, up 0.23% in the last 24 hours. A 5% decline in BTC/USD would typically present a buying opportunity in dollar terms.

Therefore, if USD/INR remains in the 95.40 range, a 5% drop in BTC/USD would lead to a matching drop in INR of 5%, taking the price to around ₹57.7 lakh, and providing the expected dip. If BTC/USD falls 5% while USD/INR rises from ₹95.4 to ₹96, Indian traders still get a dip, but the discount becomes smaller due to rupee depreciation. To erase most of a 5% BTC fall, USD/INR would need a much sharper 3–5% depreciation toward ₹98–₹100.
