Calgary-based payroll fintech Wagepoint is expanding beyond software with a new partner program aimed at helping accountants and bookkeepers grow their payroll businesses.
WagePro+ introduces a tiered model that provides participating firms with more benefits as they bring additional small-business clients onto Wagepoint’s platform. The program ranges from Starter to Platinum and adjusts automatically based on the number of sub-clients managed by each partner.
Rather than focusing on one-time referral rewards or uniform discounts, Wagepoint has positioned the program as a long-term growth platform for accounting practices.
The launch comes as Canadian small businesses face a growing administrative burden. Wagepoint cited Canadian Federation of Independent Business research estimating that regulation costs the country’s businesses more than $51 billion annually and consumes roughly 32 working days for the average small-business owner.
That burden is creating an opportunity for accountants and bookkeepers to take on more payroll work, according to Wagepoint.
One of the program’s most notable features is the Wagepoint Partner Directory, a searchable national database intended to connect small businesses with accountants and bookkeepers offering payroll assistance. Partners can be listed at no charge, providing firms with another channel for attracting clients.
WagePro+ also includes matched co-marketing investments, certification programs, Continuing Professional Development-eligible training, and educational resources. Firms in its upper tiers receive priority support, faster service levels, and greater access to payroll specialists.
Every participating firm receives a free Wagepoint payroll subscription for its own operations.
“The accounting profession in Canada is changing, and what firms expect from their payroll provider is changing with it,” said Wagepoint CEO Ben Richmond.
The program builds on Wagepoint’s recent efforts to strengthen relationships with accounting professionals. Earlier this spring, the fintech launched WagePAC, a Partner Advisory Council that brings accountants and bookkeepers into its product-development process.
Wagepoint has also added Timesheets and the My Wagepoint app to its payroll platform.
WagePro+ and the Partner Directory are available now to Canadian accounting and bookkeeping firms.
