Can AVAX Hold $7 as Institutions Keep Buying?

  • AVAX trades at $7.252, down 0.79%, holding above a symmetric triangle it broke out of last week
  • Charles Schwab will offer native AVAX, SOL, and LINK spot trading to its 39 million brokerage accounts
  • Bitwise, VanEck, and Grayscale’s AVAX ETFs now hold over 5 million AVAX combined, with 3.49 million staked

AVAX broke out of a multi-month symmetric triangle last week, jumping from around $6 to touch $8 before settling near $7.25. That breakout landed the same week Charles Schwab confirmed it’s adding AVAX to a platform overseeing more than $12 trillion in client assets, timing that’s hard to treat as coincidental.

Avalanche Price Analysis: Did AVAX Just Confirm Its Triangle Breakout?

Avalanche Price Analysis (Source: TradingView)

AVAX spent from June through late August compressing inside a symmetric triangle. Support rose from June’s low of $6.10 and resistance fell from $9.80 in May. AVAX broke this last week when Price spiked from $8.05 to $7.252 to consolidate above the new resistance line.

Of the two downtrend lines, the longer and more dominant one, which was rising from $15 in January, was also broken last week. RSI is at 56.50, edging down from last week’s spike, but has not broken yet. The 20-day EMA at $7.077 sits just below current price, with the 50-day at $6.894 and 100-day at $7.254 forming a tight cluster nearby.

AVAX News: Charles Schwab Adds Native AVAX Trading for 39 Million Accounts

Charles Schwab plans to add native spot trading for Avalanche, Solana and Chainlink after introducing Bitcoin and Ethereum trading. Analyst Scott Melker said customers will receive direct price exposure rather than a wrapped asset or ETF, although they will not be able to transfer the tokens on or off the platform.

Schwab will apply the same 75-basis-point fee it charges for Bitcoin and Ethereum transactions.

The brokerage manages more than $12 trillion for about 39 million accounts. The listing places AVAX alongside stocks, bonds and cash in accounts Schwab clients already use, eliminating the need to open a separate crypto exchange account.

Melker described the expansion as a retention strategy. By offering more crypto assets, Schwab reduces the risk of customers moving funds to Coinbase, OKX or another trading platform.

AVAX News: Institutional AVAX Holdings Cross 5 Million Tokens

The Avalanche ETFs managed by Bitwise, VanEck and Grayscale now hold a combined 5.1 million AVAX, equal to about 1.18% of the circulating supply. Notably, the funds have staked 3.49 million of those tokens to earn network rewards.

Beyond ETFs, BlackRock has also expanded its presence on Avalanche. Its BUIDL tokenized treasury fund is now the network’s second-largest asset, while total BlackRock-related allocations have surpassed $900 million.

Meanwhile, Nasdaq-listed AVAX One and Avalanche Treasury Corp hold about 14 million and 15.3 million AVAX, respectively. Both companies have staked most of their holdings rather than keeping the tokens available for immediate sale.

In addition, Avalanche’s custom Layer-1 networks have attracted FIS Global, T. Rowe Price, WisdomTree and Japan-based Progmat. Progmat, for example, transferred more than $2 billion in tokenized securities to an Avalanche Layer 1.

As a result, staking has reduced the amount of AVAX readily available for trading, which could limit selling pressure. However, these holdings will support the price only if institutions continue buying, not simply because they already control a large number of tokens.

Avalanche Derivatives: Volume Cools While Longs Stay in Control

AVAX Derivative Analysis (Source: Coinglass)

AVAX derivatives volume fell 23.90% to $274.36 million over the past 24 hours, while open interest declined 2.55% to $287.02 million. Lower volume and open interest show that activity has slowed since last week’s breakout.

Long positions still dominate. Binance’s account long-to-short ratio stands at 2.023, while OKX reports a ratio of 1.98. Binance’s top-trader account ratio is higher at 2.6711.

Metric Value What it shows
Derivatives volume (24h) $274.36M, down 23.90% Trading activity cooling after last week’s breakout
Open interest $287.02M, down 2.55% Positions largely holding steady
Binance long/short ratio 2.023 Traders lean firmly toward more upside
Binance top trader ratio 2.6711 Experienced traders even more long-biased

Liquidations back up that lean. Of the $329.36K wiped out over the past 24 hours, $317.33K came from short sellers who bet against the move and got caught out, while longs lost just $12.04K.

AVAX Price Prediction: Upside and Downside Targets

Bullish Case, Target: $9.80

AVAX holds above the reclaimed triangle resistance near $7.077 to $7.254 and follows through on the trendline breakout. Continued institutional accumulation from Bitwise, VanEck, and Grayscale, plus the Schwab listing bringing AVAX to a mainstream brokerage audience, both support renewed buying interest. A confirmed breakout targets a retest of the May high near $9.80.

Bearish Case, Risk Level: $6.894 (50-Day EMA)

AVAX fails to hold the triangle breakout and slips back below $7.077, turning last week’s move into a false breakout instead of a genuine trend change. A cooldown in derivatives volume without fresh spot demand to replace it would support this scenario, sending price back toward the 50-day EMA at $6.894.
