Cardano has gained native support in the official x402 codebase, giving developers direct access to the network through the protocol’s reference tools. The x402 protocol began as a Coinbase project and later moved under the x402 Foundation. The Linux Foundation announced the foundation’s operational launch in July 2026, describing x402 as an open standard for internet-native payments. The wider ecosystem includes companies from payments, technology, cloud services, and cryptocurrency. The launch member list included Amazon Web Services, American Express, Circle, Coinbase, Google, Mastercard, Ripple, Shopify, Stripe, Visa, and several blockchain organizations.
