Circle (CRCL) stock closed at $82.22 when the market shut on Friday. The stablecoin issuer plans a push into about 40 new markets, according to CEO Jeremy Allaire.
Allaire spoke to Reuters on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok. He said the industry is moving from the early adopter phase into a “mainstream scaling phase.”
The target list is emerging and developing countries. Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East are seeing rising organic demand from individuals and businesses.
CoinDesk reported the plan at about 50 markets. Reuters put the figure at about 40, so the count depends on which outlet you read.
Deals and Backing Behind the Push
Circle has agreed to buy Singapore-based Tazapay for $400 million. The deal gives it access to local banking and payment networks across more than 100 markets.
Binance also made a $100 million strategic investment in Circle. That money supports the global expansion.
In July, Circle became one of the first stablecoin issuers to hold a federal bank charter. It also runs Arc, an on-chain system adopted by BlackRock, Visa and Standard Chartered.
CoinDesk says the Tazapay deal could help Circle grow where Tether’s USDT has long led. That puts Circle in direct competition with banks and payment firms for cross-border money flows.
USDC Numbers and the Rules
USDC holds roughly 25% of the stablecoin market. Tether’s USDT sits near 60%.

Reuters reported USDC circulation rose 19% year over year to $73.3 billion in the second quarter. CoinDesk data puts it at about $72.6 billion now.
Allaire pointed to clearer rules such as the U.S. GENIUS Act. “When the Genius Act goes into law, the world will have legal digital dollars,” he said.
Banks in the U.S. and Europe are building their own stablecoins. Allaire called that a sign of a healthy and competitive market.
He did not go easy on the banking industry. In his words, banks fought for a long time to keep others out, but “the innovators are having their day.”
AI agents are also driving USDC use. They make payments worth fractions of a cent when doing web research or pulling real-time data.
Allaire also warned about security as AI grows. Financial infrastructure providers face rising threats from sophisticated actors and automated agent swarms, and he said, “If you’re not concerned about it, then your head is in the sand.”
