Anthropic launches Claude apps gateway, simplifying enterprise use of Claude Code with enhanced controls, cost tracking, and integrations.
Anthropic has unveiled the Claude apps gateway, a self-hosted infrastructure tool designed to streamline enterprise use of Claude Code on Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud. The gateway simplifies management with centralized policies, role-based access, per-user cost tracking, and spend caps, all deployed through a lightweight stateless container. This marks a significant upgrade for businesses seeking tighter control over AI development workflows.
Historically, deploying Claude Code required provisioning individual developer credentials and manually configuring settings across devices. The new gateway eliminates this friction by integrating directly with corporate identity providers like Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, and Okta. It also introduces robust cost management tools, allowing organizations to enforce daily, weekly, or monthly spending limits at the user, group, or organization level.
How It Works
The Claude apps gateway enhances enterprise oversight in four key areas:
- Identity Management: Acts as an OpenID Connect (OIDC) relying party, ensuring short-lived session tokens and eliminating long-lived secrets on developer machines.
- Policy Enforcement: Centralized settings are applied automatically at sign-in, controlling access to specific models and enforcing compliance with organizational standards.
- Telemetry: Tracks usage metrics for every request, with data routed to an organization’s internal collector for analysis and retention.
- Routing & Failover: Manages upstream credentials and routes inference requests to Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, or Google Cloud, with optional failover between providers.
All traffic and telemetry are kept within the organization’s infrastructure unless explicitly configured to use Anthropic’s Claude API. Additionally, Anthropic has published the gateway protocol, enabling third-party developers to implement similar features.
Strategic Context
The Claude apps gateway aligns with Anthropic’s broader push to make Claude a central tool in enterprise workflows. Earlier this year, the company introduced interactive Claude Apps, enabling integrations with popular workplace tools like Slack. By April 2026, Claude had expanded into consumer services such as Instacart and Spotify, positioning itself as both a workplace assistant and a consumer tool.
Gateway functionality has been a growing focus across the AI ecosystem, with companies using middleware to manage traffic between AI models and application endpoints. Anthropic’s approach integrates these capabilities directly into Claude’s ecosystem, providing a competitive edge for enterprises seeking unified control over their AI tools.
Getting Started
The Claude apps gateway is now available for deployment. Organizations can start by downloading the Claude Code CLI binary, configuring their identity provider, and setting managed settings for client machines. Full documentation is available on Anthropic’s website.
As AI adoption accelerates, tools like the Claude apps gateway could become critical for organizations balancing innovation with control. By investing in robust, enterprise-grade infrastructure, Anthropic is positioning Claude as a key player in the competitive AI development space.
