Coinbase launched its tokenized stocks on the Aave V4 protocol, deployed on the Base network. This integration allows tokenized shares of U.S. technology companies to be used as collateral to take out loans in USDC.
The available assets are seven: AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc and TSLAc, each backed by real shares held in custody by Alpaca Securities LLC, a broker-dealer registered with the SEC, in segregated accounts maintained in the name of the issuer.
Chainlink operates as the official oracle solution, supplying market data through tokenized equity feeds active Sunday through Friday during market hours.
Each token represents a certificate issued by Coinbase Onchain SPV Ltd. and grants direct economic exposure to the underlying share, without synthetic references. Dividends are automatically reinvested and stock splits are processed through an onchain multiplier, making each token a total return instrument.
The Aave market operates 24 hours a day, although affected reserves are paused during corporate actions until the new multiplier is applied. Looking ahead to the next stages, incorporating GHO as a borrowable asset is expected, along with an expansion of the tokenized stock list available on Coinbase, subject to governance and risk review.
