Coinbase is bringing back the Coinbase Wallet name after more than a year of testing a broader app built around Base.
The company announced the change on X on Sept. 10, returning the product to its original wallet identity. Coinbase had renamed it Base App in July 2025 as part of an effort to combine social features, messaging, payments and trading.
Coinbase Refocuses Wallet on Trading
Coinbase Wallet is now focusing on trading across onchain markets, including tokenized stocks, meme coins, perpetual contracts and prediction markets.

The wallet remains self-custodial, allowing users to retain control of their assets. Users can also access Base through the app, while Coinbase says onboarding takes only seconds.
CEO Brian Armstrong later said the social experiment “didn’t quite work,” as the company shifted more attention toward trading and self-custody.
App Expands Network Support
Coinbase Wallet supports Base, Solana, Bitcoin, Ethereum and other networks, with Robinhood Chain and Monad among its latest additions.
The shift also follows a change in leadership. Base creator Jesse Pollak handed control of the app to Jordan “Cobie” Fish in July as Coinbase moved to make the product less focused on Base.
Pollak said the app would become “less Base-centric,” reflecting Coinbase’s broader move toward a multichain wallet.
