Coinbase stock jumped 10.14% on Sept. 3 as crypto-linked equities rebounded and the exchange advanced plans for U.S. stock perpetual contracts.

COIN closed at $192.70, up $17.74 from its Sept. 2 close of $174.96. Shares reached an intraday high of $195.85, while trading volume increased sharply from the previous session.

The rally coincided with a broader recovery in Bitcoin, Robinhood and U.S. equities. Coinbase’s regulatory filings added a company-specific catalyst, although they did not establish that the perpetual plan alone caused the stock move.

StockAnalysis data showed COIN opened at $181.44 and finished at $192.70. The stock gained $17.74 from Wednesday’s $174.96 close. Trading volume reached about 13.64 million shares, versus 5.20 million one session earlier.

The Wall Street Journal reported Bitcoin traded near $81,759 after gaining about 6% Thursday. Robinhood shares rose 17%, while Coinbase ranked as the S&P 500’s second-best performer.

Reuters reported broader U.S. equities also advanced after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller’s comments. The S&P 500 rose 1.06%, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.40%. That backdrop indicated Coinbase stock benefited from more than one company-specific catalyst.

Sean Trades pointed to a technical reversal in COIN after an earlier selloff. He said the stock undercut a prior base before reclaiming that key area. His approach treated the reclaim as a reversal signal rather than predicting the intraday bottom.

Coinbase Stock Perpetual Filing Opens U.S. Regulatory Route

Coinbase disclosed that its derivatives units filed two notice registrations dated Sept. 1. Coinbase Derivatives, LLC submitted Form 1-N to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc. submitted Form BD-N under the Securities Exchange Act.

The filing cover identified Form BD-N as notice registration for a security-futures-product broker-dealer. That structure placed the planned product within the U.S. security-futures framework. It did not amount to approval for launching single-stock perpetuals.

Coinbase said it was working to bring single-stock perpetuals to U.S. customers. The company said it would coordinate with the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad called the registrations the first step. He said Commodity Futures Trading Commission product approval would come next. Shirzad also said equity perpetuals had already attracted demand outside the United States.

Coinbase already offers stock perpetuals to eligible users outside the United States. Its Help Center said those contracts trade continuously and settle in USD Coin. They track listed equities or equity baskets without transferring share ownership. Funding payments help keep contract prices aligned with fair value.

The planned contracts would differ from ordinary shares because perpetuals have no fixed expiration date. They can provide leveraged exposure without requiring investors to own the underlying stock. Coinbase has not disclosed proposed U.S. leverage, margin terms, or eligible customer categories.

Coinbase Stock Traders Watch $235 After Breakout

COIN’s Thursday move pushed the shares back above several recent closing levels. StockAnalysis data showed the stock had closed at $176.82 on Sept. 1. It then slipped to $174.96 on Sept. 2 before Thursday’s rebound.

Trader Remz said COIN had shown limited progress during much of 2026. He identified $235 as a target if momentum strengthened around the coming regulatory clarity event. That level sat about 22% above Thursday’s official closing price.

The target remained a trader projection, not a company forecast or analyst consensus. Thursday’s high near $196 also remained the nearest confirmed reference point above the close. A failure to hold the reclaimed area could weaken Sean Trades’ short-term setup.

Coinbase news now centers on the regulatory process rather than an announced product launch. The Sept. 1 filings established the registration route, but they left key commercial terms unresolved. Investors also lacked a stated timetable for Commodity Futures Trading Commission product approval.

The next verifiable corporate catalyst arrives Sept. 10 at Citi’s Global TMT Conference. Chief Financial Officer Alesia Haas will join a fireside chat at 1:15 p.m. Eastern Time. Regulatory filings or agency action could provide the next concrete update on U.S. equity perpetuals.
