On Monday, October 19, 2026, Gaming Intelligence reported that prediction market platforms Crypto.com and Novig sued Missouri officials in federal court, seeking to block the state from applying its sports betting laws to their sports event contracts.

According to the report, the companies filed their lawsuits Friday, the same day 30-day deadlines expired for six prediction market operators. Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway had ordered the firms in September to either stop offering sports event contracts in the state or apply for authorization from the Missouri Gaming Commission.

Crypto.com’s exchange operator, North American Derivatives Exchange, filed its suit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. The company contends that the Commodity Exchange Act gives the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) exclusive jurisdiction over its contracts.

Novig’s operator, Ludlow Exchange LLC, brought its case in the Eastern District of Missouri. It is seeking both preliminary and permanent injunctions. The filing comes as the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals weighs a related dispute involving Kalshi in Iowa.

Besides Crypto.com and Novig, the cease-and-desist letters went to Kalshi, Polymarket, Underdog and Robinhood. None of those four companies has filed suit in either federal district so far, though reports indicate Kalshi has held discussions with the attorney general’s office.

Hanaway’s office also noted that Crypto.com permits users as young as 18 to trade contracts, while Missouri’s minimum age for legal sports betting is 21.

The cases add to a broader dispute over whether prediction market operators fall under state or federal oversight. Federal appeals courts have so far split on the question. The Sixth and Ninth Circuits have ruled against Kalshi in related cases, while the Third Circuit has sided with the platform.
