CZ Backs BNB Chain’s New L1 Plan With Single BNB Token

Changpeng Zhao (CZ), Binance founder and former CEO, has responded to BNB Chain’s new Layer 1 plan with the phrase “Multiple chains, one coin.” His response highlights the network’s approach to expanding blockchain capacity without introducing another native token. The proposed chain will operate alongside BNB Smart Chain (BSC).

BNB Chain’s official documentation, updated on October 22, outlines a high-performance, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible network designed for latency-sensitive applications. The plan retains BNB for gas fees, staking, and governance. The network targets 200-millisecond blocks and approximately 20-millisecond transaction pre-confirmations, with a public testnet expected by late 2026.

BNB Chain Plans a New Layer 1 Network

The new Layer 1, which has not yet been named, will co-exist with BSC via a native bridge. With this system in place, the BNB Chain can build more on top of the existing chain without having to replace it. This is supposed to provide connectivity for both chains, but its development is still ongoing.

From the technology roadmap presented by BNB Chain on July 8, the new technology is expected to handle more than 100,000 transactions per second through consensus, parallel processing, and specialized storage. It should be noted that the numbers mentioned here are just goals of the design and not the actual performance levels achieved publicly.

BNB Token Remains Central to New L1

BNB Chain does not plan to issue a separate native token for the new network. Instead, BNB will support transaction fees, staking, and governance, extending the token’s utility across multiple connected blockchain environments. Users will still need to follow the network’s specific transaction and bridge requirements.

Such an idea would link the expansion to the existing ecosystem of tokens on BNB Chain. There is no need for a native asset in order to perform the main operations on the network, though the proposal has no information about the way every app or service would work on the new network.

The strategy comes as part of the efforts of BNB Chain to enhance the capabilities of the network in terms of handling more transactions while avoiding delays. Its July roadmap mentioned that the block interval of BSC dropped from 750 milliseconds in January 2026 to 450 milliseconds in June.

BNB Chain Targets Faster Transactions and Finality

The new plans for expansion have come at a time when BNB Chain is continuing with its token supply burn plan. BNB Chain conducted its 37th burn of BNB tokens, about 1.646 million of its circulating supply, on October 19, bringing down its supply to about 131.512 million tokens, according to the burn report available.

Unlike other projects whose supply burns rely on income distributions, the burn mechanism in BNB Chain depends on the BNB price and blocks generated. Another way in which the burn happens in BNB Chain is through BEP-95, which involves continuous burning of part of the transaction fee. Neither of the two guarantees any increase in the value of BNB in the market.

In addition to expanding its applications through the Layer 1 initiative, the supply burn mechanism reduces the supply of BNB. However, the effects of this in the market can only be known through the adoption of the network.

Quarterly BNB Burn Adds Token Supply Context

The new expansion initiatives come as BNB Chain continues to engage in its token-supply burn program. On October 19, the blockchain platform conducted its 37th quarterly burn of approximately 1.646 million BNB from its circulating supply, which was cut down to approximately 131.512 million tokens according to the burn report provided.

In the case of BNB Chain, the Auto-Burn system determines the size of each quarterly supply burn through the use of BNB price and block production, rather than the distribution of the company’s income. There is another process called BEP-95 that is responsible for burning a fraction of transaction fees continually. Neither of the two ensures an increase in the value of BNB in the market.

With the new Layer 1 initiative, BNB’s applications are broadened even as the burn mechanism reduces its supply. Yet, how this will affect the market will only be determined by adoption and demand on the network.

Public Testnet Expected by Late 2026

According to BNB Chain’s report, a public testnet should be released by the end of 2026, and a mainnet launch should occur at the beginning of 2027. There is an internal network of multiple validators being used now, but a public testnet would allow developers to conduct testing in a wider environment.

Next, technical specifications need to be shared, bridge testing conducted, and validation of network features performed. Developers and users would have to compare the actual results with those promised.

CZ’s response reflects the central design choice: multiple blockchain networks operating within the BNB ecosystem while retaining one native token. The success of the new Layer 1 depends on its performance, developer adoption, and ability to work with applications that require less delay in transactions.
