- CZ said unwanted meme coins sent to his address made it hard to manage and sparked online speculation.
- CZ called the wallet an “effective burn address,” though it is not a true unspendable address on-chain.
- Giggle Academy uses donations to fund free education programs for children worldwide.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, widely known as CZ, has emptied a wallet that crypto watchers have followed closely for months. On Aug. 16, he sent roughly $965,000 in BNB and 币安人生 tokens to his education project, Giggle Academy.
On-chain analysts Onchain Lens and The Data Nerd confirmed the move. They reported that CZ transferred 1,440 BNB, worth close to $872,000 at the time, along with 182,620 币安人生 tokens valued at about $93,000.
The transfer came shortly after CZ said he would donate the assets and stop using the address entirely.
Why CZ Moved the Funds
CZ explained his decision in a post on Binance Square. He said he had been testing Trust Wallet when he noticed that many meme coins had been sent to his address without his request.
Those unwanted tokens made it difficult to locate his own BNB holdings. He tried burning some of the coins to clean up the wallet, but that action only led to more online chatter.
People began asking whether his actions meant he supported certain projects. CZ said repeating the cleanup would not solve the problem, since anyone can send tokens to a public address at any time.
A coin appearing in his wallet does not mean he bought it, backed it, or has any connection to it.
Giggle Academy has received crypto donations before. The project collected about $11 million in BNB within weeks of opening its public donation channel in 2025. The group says donated funds go toward free lessons, learning tools, and programs for children around the world.
Not a True Burn Address
CZ described the wallet as “effectively a burn address” once the funds moved out. That phrase can be misleading in crypto terms.
A real burn address has its private key destroyed, making stored coins impossible to ever spend again. There is no public proof that CZ destroyed the private key for this wallet.
The address could still receive tokens from other people, and those tokens would remain visible on the blockchain. CZ’s wallet has drawn attention before this event too.
Meme coins loosely tied to his name have seen sudden bursts of trading in the past, even after he denied any connection to them.
Looking ahead, CZ says he plans to stop using the wallet going forward. Other users can still send tokens to the address whenever they want, since it remains active on-chain.
Giggle Academy is not required to hold onto the donated coins forever. CZ said in July that gifts to the academy are meant to be spent on education rather than kept in storage.
The transfer completes the plan CZ laid out days earlier. He said he would move the funds, and on-chain data now confirms they reached Giggle Academy’s wallet on Aug. 16.
