Bitcoin’s limited supply could make it increasingly difficult for even millionaires to own a full coin as more of the existing supply becomes unavailable, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao said.
Zhao pointed to Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million-coin supply and the amount already mined. He also noted that some coins may be permanently inaccessible because their owners lost their private keys.
Bitcoin Scarcity Gains Attention
More than 20.07 million Bitcoin were in circulation by August 2026, leaving about 4.4% of the maximum supply still to be mined.

The amount available to investors could be smaller. Zhao estimates that 10% to 20% of existing Bitcoin may already be lost, with forgotten private keys and inaccessible wallets keeping those coins out of circulation.
Trader Quinten Francois estimates that the US has about 23.6 million millionaires. If that figure is accurate, there would not be enough Bitcoin for every US millionaire to own a full coin, even before accounting for potentially lost holdings.

Zhao’s comments have also renewed interest in his earlier Bitcoin forecast. In July, he said the cryptocurrency could reach $1 million around 2033.
Cathie Wood and Ricardo Salinas Pliego have also made bullish long-term forecasts, fueling debate over Bitcoin’s potential as its supply remains fixed.
