Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter said in a recent X post that things are looking great with Glamsterdam and EIP-7928 (Block-Level Access Lists) close to the final mile.
The countdown has begun for Glamsterdam’s first public test as testing continues on devnets. The Sepolia fork is scheduled for October 6, 2026, while the mainnet launch is expected in Q4 2026 with no official date yet.
Wahrstätter believes Glamsterdam will be one of the biggest forks seen yet; while it has taken a correspondingly long time, he claims the result will be worth it.

Ethereum cofounder reveals vision post-Hegota hard fork
In a recent post, Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin shared a glimpse of a post-Hegota era for Ethereum.
“My attempt to express in somewhat concise terms the true meaning of basically everything planned to happen to Ethereum starting from the fork after Hegota. It’s really not just a blockchain anymore. It’s a hybrid architecture that combines together blockchains and modern cryptography, to enable much more powerful properties,” Buterin wrote on X.

Citing Strawman, which houses the longer-range draft roadmap for Ethereum, Buterin noted that Hegota—the fork planned for next year—might likely be Ethereum’s last “normal” fork, with features and technology that would be recognizable to someone from 2015.
Everything after Hegota will involve recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, and highly optimized consensus algorithms to make Ethereum quantum-safe. Buterin noted that with PeerDAS, Ethereum began its transition from being just a blockchain to being something much more powerful, and starting after Hegota, this transformation becomes Ethereum’s primary story.
The outcome of this, Buterin said, will be much cheaper, more scalable, and more private high-security computation than anything that could be done with the previous era’s technology alone: the cryptographic world computer.
