Navitas Semiconductor will begin shipping its first U.S.-made Gen 5 GaNFast wafers in September through GlobalFoundries. The milestone moves Navitas deeper into domestic power semiconductor production for data centers, computing, industrial systems, and defense applications. U.S. Gen 5 GaNFast Production Moves Forward
Navitas developed its fifth-generation GaNFast platform for production at GlobalFoundries’ 200mm GaN-on-silicon facility in Burlington, Vermont. The manufacturing plan expands domestic capacity for advanced gallium nitride power devices used in high-efficiency electrical systems. It also gives Navitas a U.S.-based production source for future GaNFast generations.
The companies formed a long-term strategic partnership in November 2025 to accelerate domestic GaN development and manufacturing. Since then, Navitas has adapted its device designs and process technology for GlobalFoundries’ manufacturing platform. The collaboration combines Navitas’ power semiconductor designs with GlobalFoundries’ established high-volume production capabilities.
The first product family will include 650-volt GaN FETs across several on-resistance specifications for different power requirements. Navitas expects resistance options of 11, 18, 50, 120, and 150 milliohms within the initial lineup. This range targets power systems that require different balances between efficiency, switching performance, size, and thermal control.
September Wafers Start a Broader Sampling Schedule
Navitas expects the first Gen 5 wafers to leave the Vermont production line during September. Internal samples should follow in October as the company moves through testing and qualification work. Strategic customer samples are planned before year-end, supporting wider evaluation across targeted markets.
The September shipment marks the first production step under the Navitas and GlobalFoundries manufacturing partnership. It also brings Navitas’ newest GaNFast architecture into a domestic commercial foundry for the first time. That transition gives the company a clearer path from design development to U.S.-based wafer production.
Navitas designed the platform for data center power, high-performance computing, industrial electrification, and national security systems. These applications need efficient power conversion as electricity demand rises across advanced computing and industrial equipment. GaN devices can support smaller power systems while reducing energy losses during high-frequency switching.
Navitas Builds on Long-Term GaN and SiC Development
Navitas has developed gallium nitride power products since 2014 and also operates a silicon carbide technology portfolio. The company holds more than 300 issued and pending patents across GaN and SiC technologies. Its portfolio covers device structures, process design kits, integrated power circuits, control features, sensing, and protection functions.
The Gen 5 program extends that technical base into a manufacturing process designed for 200mm GaN-on-silicon wafers. Larger wafer formats can support greater production scale when fabrication yields and customer demand reach commercial targets. GlobalFoundries adds manufacturing infrastructure that can support higher volumes as Navitas expands customer qualification.
The U.S. production effort also gives Navitas another supply option for markets that value domestic semiconductor sourcing. That factor matters for computing, industrial, and defense programs that require dependable component availability and traceable manufacturing. The September wafer shipment therefore adds a production milestone alongside the company’s broader technology and supply-chain strategy.
