Flare Cuts XRP-to-DeFi Onboarding to a Single Signature With Smart Accounts v1.3

Flare Network on Tuesday launched Flare Smart Accounts (FSA) v1.3, an update designed to simplify how XRP holders access decentralized finance (DeFi) by reducing a process that previously required multiple steps to a single wallet signature.

The update allows XRP holders to mint FXRP, Flare’s tokenized representation of XRP for DeFi applications, and deposit it into yield-generating vaults using a single XRP Ledger (XRPL) signature.

It also eliminates the need for a separate EVM wallet, gas tokens, and manual bridging, while adding a new vault option and support for additional XRPL wallets.

One Signature Replaces Multi-Step DeFi Onboarding

Previously, accessing XRPFi through Flare required two separate XRPL signatures along with additional wallet setup and bridging steps.

With FSA v1.3, users select a vault and sign once using their existing XRPL wallet. After the transaction is signed, Flare’s Data Connector verifies it, triggering a smart contract linked to the user’s XRP Ledger address. The contract then mints FXRP and deposits it into the selected vault automatically.

According to Flare, XRP remains secured on the XRP Ledger under FXRP’s 1:1 collateral model throughout the process.

Filip Koprivec, chief product officer at Flare, said the update allows users to move from XRP holdings to yield-generating strategies with a single signature while maintaining a non-custodial experience.

The release adds the Clearstar Flare XRP Yield Vault alongside the existing Monarq XRP Yield Vault, giving users access to two FXRP yield strategies.

Monarq, majority-owned by FalconX, uses a combination of derivatives and DeFi strategies, including options and basis trading. Clearstar’s vault takes a fully on-chain approach, deploying FXRP across lending and liquidity protocols such as Avant and Euler. Flare said the strategy has previously managed more than 33 million FXRP in deposits.

Flare also expanded wallet support to Ledger, Xaman, Joey Wallet, and WalletConnect-compatible wallets, including Bifrost, joining existing D’CENT integration.

Joey Wallet now embeds Flare Smart Accounts directly as an in-wallet decentralized application, allowing users to mint FXRP and deposit into vaults without leaving the wallet interface.

Yield vaults are investment products that automatically deploy deposited assets into lending, liquidity, and trading strategies designed to generate returns.

XRPFi Adoption Continues to Grow

XRP has historically had limited participation in DeFi compared with networks such as Ethereum and Solana because the XRP Ledger does not natively support the same smart contract functionality.

Projects like Flare aim to bridge that gap by enabling XRP-based assets to interact with DeFi applications.

According to Flare, FXRP deployed across DeFi applications has increased nearly 75% since February 2026, rising from 82 million to 144 million FXRP.

Flare also said more than 40 million XRP is currently earning yield through Smart Accounts, while nearly 24,000 Smart Accounts have been created to date.

Why This Matters

The update addresses a key obstacle to XRP’s participation in DeFi: onboarding complexity. By removing separate wallet setup, bridging requirements, and gas management, Flare is aiming to make DeFi access more straightforward for XRP holders.

Whether simpler onboarding translates into broader XRPFi adoption remains to be seen. However, reducing technical friction could help expand XRP’s use in lending, liquidity, and yield-generating applications, an area where the asset has historically had limited participation.
