Following KelpDAO Hack, Aave Unveils New Risk Management Framework

Aave founder Stani Kulechov announced the proposal for a new risk management framework designed by LlamaRisk for the decentralized lending protocol. This measure comes as a direct response to the $290 million exploit suffered by KelpDAO’s rsETH bridge in April, where the attacker used the stolen funds as collateral within Aave V3, threatening the platform’s stability with bad debt.

The initiative seeks to mitigate contagion risks through a strict evaluation of assets, bridges, and chains, incorporating advanced automation capabilities. The new standard will be binding for quarterly listing and monitoring across Aave V3, V4, and Aave Horizon, allowing for the rapid removal of problematic tokens before they affect the market.

Currently, the proposal is in the evaluation phase by the Aave governance community. If approved, those assets that do not meet the requirements of the new standard will be progressively delisted from the protocol in the coming weeks.
