Accelerator began its first Silicon Valley residency.

The program brings early-stage Cardano builders together with Draper University, Draper Dragon, and the wider Orion Fund initiative. The current cohort spans areas including payments, compliance, institutional DeFi, enterprise infrastructure, and other Web3 applications.

The development comes as Cardano onchain activity briefly accelerated alongside ADA’s August rally. DEX volume and active addresses rose sharply before cooling again, raising questions about how much of the activity represented lasting ecosystem growth.

Draper University describes the program as a four-week Silicon Valley residency for up to 15 teams. Selected projects can receive up to $20,000 in investment for a target 2% equity position.

The program began Aug. 17 and ends with a dedicated pitch session for angel investors and early-stage venture firms.

A recent Cardano ecosystem update said 13 teams entered the current Genesis cohort. The participating builders came from six countries and represented several sectors, including institutional DeFi, payments, compliance, enterprise infrastructure, and AI-related applications.

That makes 13 the current cohort size, while 15 represents the maximum capacity advertised by Draper University.

Genesis also links participating teams to the $80 million Draper Dragon Orion Fund, which focuses on Cardano companies progressing from accelerator stage toward institutional scale.

The initiative therefore goes beyond developer education. It combines product development, fundraising preparation, venture access, and investor exposure.

Cardano News: Dex Volumes Signal Rising Network Activity

While the prospect of more development coming to Cardano underscores potential activity ahead, onchain data signals a spike in activity.

The network registered a significant cooling in network activity earlier this year, especially on the DEXes front. Cardano weekly DEX volume fell as low as $4.35 million between 20 and 26 April.

Interestingly, DEX volume surged as high as $101.8 million last week (17-23 August). This was the highest weekly DEX volume observed since the second week of December 2024.

Cardano followed up with $56.9 million in DEX volume this week. Almost half of the volumes observed in the previous week. This suggests that the volumes were largely tied to the spike in speculative activity observed in the previous week.

One of the reasons why the DEX volume spike was largely tied to speculation has to do with other key observations. For example, address activity retreated to the same levels observed before last week’s market spike.

For context, active addresses surged to 169,325 addresses last week. However, this week they retreated to 85,371 addresses.

Perhaps even more noteworthy was that Cardano’s TVL did not register a substantial uptick. TVL surges are often associated with the return of confidence. Cardano’s TVL hovered at $58.6 million, the lowest level observed since early 2023.

Cardano Crypto Lends Itself To Profit-taking

On the price side of things, Cardano crypto managed to exit the consolidation zone where it was stuck since the second week of June.  ADA price pulled off a 50% rally from as low as $0.177 on 18 August to $0.258 on 22 August.

The Cardano crypto price was high in overbought territory at its recent top. Consequently, profit-taking was prominent this week, pulling the price down by about 21% to its $0.20 press time price tag.

ADA price remained above the 50% RSI level despite the pullback, although it was rapidly approaching the mid-level. Interestingly, whale orderbooks still demonstrated renewed interest, with both spot and derivatives segments positioning in favor of the bulls.

However, demand remained relatively weak, which could signal that whales are testing the waters. Whether Cardano crypto will continue its retreat or pivot remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the newly launched pre-accelerator program has analysts wondering whether it could be a game changer for Cardano network adoption.
