It’s the 25th anniversary of 9/11 today. Kind of crazy to think it’s been so long, and to sort of step back and see just how much the world has changed in those two-and-a-half decades. I was in college when the terror attacks came. It was the end of an era, the end of innocence in some ways. That hopeful, optimistic spirit of the 90s came crashing up against a new political reality. Then again, the advent of the iPhone just a few years later probably had as much, if not more, of an impact on the world as we knew it.
In any case, it’s also 2XP Friday for Competitive Wordle players, so I’ll stop rambling on about society and get down to business. Double your points, good or bad, and let’s solve today’s Wordle!

Today’s Wordle Etymology
“Aster” comes from Greek astḗr, meaning “star.” The flower was named for its star-shaped blossoms. The same ancient root appears in words such as astronomy, asteroid, and astral.

CHORE left me with 257 words and two yellow boxes, but SPEAR speared most of those away, leaving me with just four. I came up with just two: LASER and ASTER. If I’d thought of TASER I would have almost certainly guessed that, but I didn’t. I thought of a flower, not a weapon. I guess I’m in a peaceful mood. I also didn’t think of ASKER because who ever says ASKER? I would have guessed LASER but I was 100% sure we’d used it before and even though they are doing repeats now, I still liked my chances better with a new word. Lucky for me, I was right!

Alas, I still can’t get the upper hand on this bloody Bot! We tied for 3, which means we each get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying. Doubled, that equals two points each. Our new September totals are:

Today’s Bonus Custom Wordle
Now that we can create our own custom Wordles, I’m including a bonus Wordle with each daily Wordle guide. These can be 4 to 7 letters long. Hopefully this is a vfun extra challenge. Click the link below to play the Wordle I hand-crafted for you today.

How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
