On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, The420 reported that India’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) issued notices to fifteen offshore virtual digital asset service providers for alleged non-compliance with the country’s anti-money laundering (AML) framework.

The action targets platforms including Weex, Blofin, Rezorex, Bitunix, DigiFinex, Toobit, XT.com, Latoken, and WOO X. Authorities are initiating steps to block public access to these platforms’ websites and mobile applications in India, aiming at overseas entities serving Indian traders without meeting mandatory reporting obligations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Since March 2023, virtual digital asset providers serving domestic users must comply with national AML and counter-terrorist financing rules, requiring registration with the FIU. Physical presence in India is not necessary for regulatory jurisdiction, as offshore entities catering to local residents fall under its purview.

Updated guidelines from January 2026 mandate strict customer due diligence, user identity verification, detailed transaction logging, and flagging of suspicious activities. Offshore platforms must also establish compliance mechanisms and appoint responsible officials for regulatory communication. The FIU collects and evaluates financial intelligence for sharing with enforcement bodies, not for market regulation or guaranteeing returns.

The notices do not imply an immediate ban or asset seizure. The focus is on removing public access to online portals and applications, with potential shutdowns depending on future regulatory orders and the platforms’ ability to rectify compliance issues. Restricted access could cause severe disruptions for Indian users attempting to log in, trade, or withdraw funds. Regulators clarified that registration pertains solely to monitoring money flows and does not represent state endorsement.

Market participants with capital on affected exchanges are advised to safeguard their funds. Users should download and archive trade histories, account statements, records, and verification documents. New deposits into these fifteen platforms should be halted until their regulatory status is resolved.

Where withdrawals are accessible, users are encouraged to perform a nominal test transaction before transferring larger sums, emphasizing the critical need for precise blockchain network and recipient wallet address details, as misdirected transfers are irreversible.

Maintaining the confidentiality of private keys, passwords, and authentication codes is essential, alongside vigilance against fraudulent recovery agents or support representatives.
